What is the Trip Leader position?

There is no “typical” day. Although there is a plan for each day, each day is unique. Surprises, challenges and opportunities come up all the time. There are, however, many principles and routines that guests expect when traveling with Backroads. For many, the nimble combination of stability and flexibility our Trip Leaders provide is what keeps guests traveling with Backroads time and time again.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • English fluency
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Some proficiency in Italian, German, or French is a PLUS! But not required. (We have a high need for these languages)
  • You must be authorized to work in United States, Canada and European Economic Community (EEC)

Here are some of the hats that you will be wearing at Backroads:

Leader: Provide all the on-trip support, equipment and logistics so our guests are free to explore actively and stress-free on our Biking, Walking & Hiking and Multi-Adventure tours.

Support Leader: The role of the Support Leader is to provide additional van support to increase the number of route options for our guests. With this extra vanwe’re also able to have one leader handle picnic setup or luggage delivery while the other leaders provide support on the road or trail.

Leader On-Call: Leaders in their first year should expect to work as “Leaders On-Call” for a week or two throughout their season, which could involve hourly work with equipment, facilities or support on trip.

Camp Crew: Occasionally Trip Leaders also work as Camp Chef or Camp Assistant for a week on a Camping Trip in North America. Like the role of Support Leader, working as part of the Camp Crew gives Trip Leaders work and increases their earning potential without the additional responsibilities of being a Trip Leader. Also, trip leaders will also have other paid activities…

United States: Anchorage, AK; Whitefish, MT; Jackson Hole, WY; Berkeley, CA; Anacortes, WA; Stowe, VT; St. George, UT.

Canada: Canmore, AB; Nova Scotia, NA; Gulf Islands, BC; Quebec, QC.
