Cloudera is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong technical background to help incubate a new team from ground up to deliver Cloudera’s Data Services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

About the Team

The Data Services Platform (DSP) team is building a common substrate for Cloudera’s next-gen Data Services for GenAI Inferencing, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Data Flow, Data Lake etc. We are building a hybrid data platform that abstracts out the complexities of various cloud providers like AWS, Azure, GCP and is the foundation pillar of Cloudera’s hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud strategy. Cloudera’s next-gen Data Services enables customers to utilize their on-premise and cloud infrastructure, dynamically adjusting and scaling to their workload needs. These Cloudera Data Services, whether hosted by Cloudera or the customer, enable the latest and evolved techniques of managing data to empower various consumers of data from analysts to data scientists.

The Data Services Platform organization has deep technical expertise in distributed computing and container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, Apache Hadoop, etc. and on various cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP, Openshift, RKE etc. We have team members who have been the pioneers of open source projects like

Apache YARN

Apache Ambari

YuniKorn for Kubernetes

. We are deeply involved in open source communities like Apache Software Foundation, CNCF.

We are expanding our charter and incubating a new team under Data Services Platform organization to enable Cloudera Data Services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). We are looking for an engineering manager with working experience on Cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, Azure, Openshift; Cloud Storage/Backup technologies (Google Cloud Storage, S3, EFS, EBS, ADLS), and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. You will be responsible for incubating this new team and delivering a Data Services Platform on GCP. You will be responsible for designing, building and delivering these services and will closely collaborate with partner engineering teams to deliver features and products at a rapid pace. You must be self-motivated, innovative, and proactive. This role offers significant opportunities for growth.

As the Engineering Manager you will:

Incubate the GCP focused team and deliver Data Services Platform onto GCP
Lead a team of strong engineers to design, code, and implement elegant, scalable, enterprise-quality application services
Build strong relationships and collaborate with platform and UI engineers, quality engineers, UX designers, as well as, Product Management, Field Engineering, and other external partners

Work closely with Product Managers to define the capabilities that should be built into the product based on customer use cases
As a leader, you should be able to fill in, to address gaps in process/practices followed by the team/organization
Help to define the career growth of your reportee by working with them and being responsible for their growth
Enhance developer velocity and team agility

We’re excited about you if you have:

BE, MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science
10+ years of experience in enterprise software development
2+ years of management experience. Strong technical leads might be considered
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience building enterprise grade PaaS and SaaS products is strongly desired
Solid understanding of engineering best practices, agile software development methodologies, building CI/CD pipelines, sprint planning and execution
Strong Understanding of distributed systems and building systems at scale
Should be able to drive the architecture/design and provide technical direction to the team
Experience with at least one Public cloud platforms – GCP, AWS or Azure
Prior working experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) strongly desired
Experience with Cloud Storage (Google Cloud Storage, S3, EFS, EBS, ADLS)

It is a plus if you have:

Experience with GCP offerings: Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) networking, Google Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Identity & Access Management (IAM), Cloud Monitoring & Logging
Expertise with container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Openshift, EKS, AKS, GKE, Google Anthos etc.) and cloud networking
Experience working in open source Apache Hadoop Community and more broadly the Big Data ecosystem communities (e.g. Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Hive)
Experience working in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) community
