Senior Java Devops Engineer (Remote)

Are you a seasoned Senior Software Engineer with a knack for Java and DevOps? Join our team to build a digital platform for both mobile and web to provide financial support to students in Germany whose parents cannot afford their education. The platform will allow users to submit applications digitally, utilizing Bundesidentifikation (Germany’s national authentication system) for citizen verification.

Key features include a streamlined application process, enabling applicants to track the status of their submissions and receive notifications regarding missing information. The platform will also calculate potential funding amounts and forward the submitted data to the relevant federal states for processing. Additionally, a Content Management System (CMS) will be integrated to manage articles and other content on the public portal.

Responsibilities

Knowledge areas and responsibilities:

• Articulates the high-level business value on projects
• Creates and maintains documentation of APIs and technical user stories
• Approve technical concepts of realizations
• Knows and can explain ways to automate documentation generation
• Coordinate evaluation of tools and frameworks for the engineering team
• Analyze and understand flows and end-to-end interactions for a distributed system
• Hands on participation in CI/CD build for cloud-based applications and environments
• Expertise on ways to automate and improve development and release processes
• Skillful in tools required to automate, test, deploy, manage, and monitor applications
• Ability to absorb and convey detailed technical information
• Are used to prompt reacting to system notifications and making sure the downtime is minimal
• Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack
• Good time management and ability to prioritize tasks among multiple or changing priorities
• Enjoy mentoring junior development team or would like to have this opportunity in the future
• Prefer to work on agile software development projects with globally distributed teams

Qualifications

• Good communication skills (spoken and written) with fluent English as essential
• Have at least 5 years of relevant experience

Java

• Are proficient in Java, with a good knowledge of its ecosystems
• Own basic understanding of the class loading mechanism in Java
• Have skill for writing reusable Java libraries
• Are knowledgeable of concurrency patterns in Java
• Are familiar with Java GUI frameworks such as Swing, SWT, and AWT
• Own basic understanding of JVM, its limitations, weaknesses, and workarounds
• Are familiar with build tools such as Ant, Maven, and Gradle
• Are familiar with concepts of MVC, JDBC, and RESTful APIs
• Have experience with SQL and NoSQL databases concepts but also both external and embedded databases

DevOps

• Proficient in tools required to automate, test, deploy, manage, and monitor applications
• Deep knowledge of Jenkins, Azure and/or GitLab CI/CD tools
• Working experience with Cloud environments (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Working experience with Kubernetes
• Working experience with Microservice Architecture
• Kong or Tyk knowledge is of an advantage
• Excellent knowledge of infrastructure monitoring systems (e.g., The Elastic Stack, Zabbix, Nagios)
• Strong background in Linux administration

Salary range: 4000-7000 EUR gross
