Software Developer – Back End Engineer (yellow band) 

Who You’ll Work With

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced backend engineer to join a team building a GenAI platform designed to transform the learning, feedback, development, and evaluation ecosystem across McKinsey.

You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, data scientists, designers, and product managers on a top internal initiative, working on a critical people solution that will advance our aim of developing, exciting, and retaining exceptional people.

Your impact within our Firm

You’ll join the team during an exciting phase of growth, developing cutting-edge features in preparation to expand the release of our product to a rapidly growing user base.

You will develop and maintain back-end components, creating new use cases and improving existing features

You will build API endpoints that connect with databases and other back-end systems for retrieval of data

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs

You will conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality code

You will participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning and daily stand-ups, to ensure timely and efficient delivery of features

You will optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability, ensuring high performance and responsiveness

You will troubleshoot, debug, upgrade existing software, and manage tech debt, ensuring the robustness and quality of the codebase

Your qualifications and skills

Technical qualifications

Extensive (5+ years) experience with the following technologies and capabilities:

●            Backend:

◦             Must have: Python

◦             Nice to have: GraphQL, Redis, Serverless functions

●            Database:

◦             Must have: PostgreSQL

◦             Nice to have: SQL, SQLAlchemy ORM

●            Cloud infrastructure: Some familiarity with cloud – Microsoft Azure, AWS, Serverless, Cloud Storage, Queue Storage, Docker, Terraform

General qualifications

●            Very driven and strong ownership – super strong on execution and output orientation, likes to get stuff done attitude and ability to figure things out independently and quickly get up to speed in new topics. Able to work in complex and very fast paced environment

●            Strong communication skills, holds their ground, opinionated, not afraid to speak up at any level

●            Familiarity with agile principles and product development

●            OK with taking occasional evening meetings given global user base of tool
