We are seeking a highly skilled AWS Architect to lead the design, build, and configuration of a standalone development environment in AWS. This environment will undergo accreditation to the Protected level, requiring robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure aligned with Australian Government security standards.

This is an exciting opportunity to define, design, and implement an end-to-end solution, leveraging AWS services to support development teams with cutting-edge, compliant infrastructure. This role can be based anywhere in Australia, and as its working to Federal Government requires Australian Citizenship and a Baseline clearance minimum. 

Key Responsibilities

• VPC, Firewall, and Routing Configuration: Design and implement secure VPCs, configure firewalls, and establish effective routing policies.
• DNS Configuration: Set up and manage DNS to ensure seamless name resolution and service availability.
• License Server Deployment: Build and configure license servers to manage software license usage.
• Server and Service Patching: Implement and manage patching schedules to maintain compliance and security.
• GitLab Services: Deploy, configure, and optimise GitLab services for version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Subnet and Compute Instance Configuration: Set up subnets, ECS, and EC2 instances to meet workload requirements.
• Load Balancing: Configure AWS load balancers to ensure high availability and efficient resource distribution.
• Storage Configuration: Implement scalable storage solutions, ensuring durability and accessibility.
• Monitoring and Logging: Set up monitoring and logging using AWS tools (e.g., CloudWatch, CloudTrail) for performance and security insights.
• Standard Operating Environment (SOE) Image Configuration: Develop and maintain secure, standardised SOE images for compute instances.

Skills and Experience

• Proven expertise in designing and building secure AWS environments from the ground up.
• Strong knowledge of AWS core services, including VPC, EC2, ECS, Route 53, RDS, S3, and IAM.
• Experience with network security configurations, including firewalls, routing, and DNS.
• Proficiency in implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using AWS tools.
• Familiarity with patch management and SOE image creation.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab configuration and version control best practices.
• Strong understanding of compliance frameworks such as ISM and strategies for accreditation to Protected level.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Australian Citizenship and a current AGSVA security clearance is essential, Baseline minimum.
