JOB DESCRIPTION


L/D is expanding our footprint by opening an office in Dayton, and so we are in search of our first General Manager (GM) for this location. We have built several projects in the Dayton area, and we believe there is an opportunity to do even more work there. We intend to do so, in part, by hiring and investing in people who live and work in the region. The GM of our Dayton location will work with our established team in Westerville by developing and executing a regional office strategy that will significantly contribute to the success of the overall organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the establishment and growth of our Dayton office, including strategic planning, business development and market expansion.
  • Build and manage a team of construction professionals, including project managers, estimators, superintendents and others.
  • Build and maintain a strategic network of decision makers and influencers in our target markets. Prospect within network for potential construction projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all Dayton-based projects. In some cases, especially in the early years of the Dayton office, serve as the Project Manager.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Promote L/D safety culture and ensure compliance with L/D safety policy.
  • Lead and/or assist estimates and proposals for Dayton area projects.
  • Participate in strategic and operational initiatives to enhance, grow and improve the company.

SKILLS:

  • Strong understanding of the Dayton construction market.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a growth mindset.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined and focused enough to work independently and remotely from the main office headquarters (although several trips to Westerville, especially early, will be required)
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work through problems (technical/non-technical) in a crisis, make decisions and provide clear direction.
  • Successfully win over customers (internal and external).
  • Ability to analyze and understand the organization’s competitive position and develop strategies to help the organization win.
  • Strong understanding of how a commercial general contracting company functions, with knowledge of business development, estimating, project management and back-of-house processes.
  • Strong and relevant computer skills.
  • Knowledge of safety best practices and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and pivot with unexpected changes
  • Respond quickly to requests of customers and superintendents.
  • Ability to identify client needs and manage the work from conceptual stage through completion.
  • Strong sense of curiosity with excellent listening skills.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to lead or support project estimates.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience working in the commercial construction industry is preferred
  • 7+ years working in the Dayton, Ohio construction market is preferred
  • Experience serving in a leadership role within a company or organization is required.
