Role Summary:
The Head of Cost Control is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost management, budgeting, and financial planning within the contracting company. Operating from the head office, this position requires a strategic thinker with deep corporate experience and a proven track record in contracting or construction environments. The ideal candidate will have exceptional expertise in managing cost control processes for large-scale projects, ensuring financial efficiency and organizational profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Cost Management:
– Develop and implement company-wide cost control policies, procedures, and systems.
– Align cost control strategies with corporate goals and project requirements.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
– Lead the preparation of budgets for projects and operations, ensuring accurate forecasting and cost estimation.
– Monitor and evaluate budget variances, proposing corrective actions where necessary.
Cost Analysis and Reporting:
– Oversee the preparation of cost reports, providing detailed analyses and insights to senior management.
– Ensure accurate and timely reporting of cost data to facilitate strategic decision-making.
Risk Management:
– Identify cost-related risks and develop mitigation strategies.
– Establish controls to manage potential financial exposures effectively.
Project Oversight:
– Collaborate with project teams to ensure cost optimization across all phases of the project lifecycle.
– Provide expertise on contractual and procurement cost control matters.
Leadership and Collaboration:
– Lead and mentor the cost control team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
– Work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, project management, and procurement.
Compliance and Governance:
– Ensure adherence to corporate financial policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in cost management.
– Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in cost control processes.
Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CCP, PMP) is preferred.
– 20+ years of experience in cost control, with a significant portion at a senior/executive level in a contracting company.
– Extensive corporate and head office experience, particularly in managing cost control for large-scale projects.
– In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, cost estimation, and financial planning tools.
– Proficiency in ERP systems and cost management software.
– Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
