JOB SUMMARY FOR DESIGN PROGRAM MANAGER:
- We are seeking a Design Program Manager to join our leading client’s team.
- In this role, you’ll help make the Design System adoption team more effective by applying process improvements, facilitating UX and cross-functional teamwork, assisting with cross-product component request prioritization, and driving design work forward from strategy to implementation.
- The Design Program Manager role is critical to creating a faster, more consistent design experience. You will have the unique opportunity to drive adoption and implementation of our design system, ensuring that it’s simple, streamlined, and efficient.
- You’ll collaborate with, communicate with, and support various external product teams, to deliver the highest level of trust-building and strategic counsel help, ensuring quality and efficiency across their portfolio.
- Pay Range: $65-70/hr.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR DESIGN PROGRAM MANAGER:
- Designing and facilitating processes to track and communicate progress across the program of work, ensuring teams are on track.
- Help define roles and responsibilities and facilitate decision-making, surface risks and challenges, and help resolve blockers.
- Drive the overall system roadmap: helping teams define scope, deliverables, and schedules, and coordinating release planning across multiple teams for multiple stakeholders
- Create and socialize processes for how designers and engineers will adopt and contribute to the system
- Organize roadshows and trainings on the design system to our product teams
- Define and track KPIs to monitor the success of the design system product and find creative ways to help the system teams connect with their objectives.
- Enable continuous improvement during the project, ensuring insights are captured, shared, and integrated
- Maintain high-level familiarity with the design system and work across product teams to evangelize the design system’s value and engagement model.
- Provide operational strategy for sophisticated problems associated with a growing organization and limited design resources.
- Supervise and continuously communicate project status with team, collaborators, and senior management.
- Schedule and facilitate kickoffs, internal and cross-functional design reviews, standups, retrospectives and handoffs with engineering
- Provide design enablement guidance as a strategic partner to help teams in design system adoption
- Lead or collaborate with UX team in key project decision-making, including requirements gathering, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination of teams and approval processes
- Uphold UX standards and best practices and help identify areas for improvement.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE FOR DESIGN PROGRAM MANAGER:
- College Degree required
- 7+ years as a UX/Design Producer, UX/Design Program Manager, Project Manager, or validated experience in a product focused organization, design consultancy or creative agency
- Experience leading UX projects with various project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.), with a passion to drive towards more agile practices
- Experience managing workflows, project plans and driving execution
- Knowledge of design process, design thinking, and user-centered design approaches
- Excellent written and verbal communication and strong meeting facilitation skills
- Ability to convey business needs through design objectives to key stakeholders
- Experience advocating for UX within groups of cross-functional collaborators
- It is essential you have extensive experience working in program management roles working with both design and engineering teams. Experience working with large design teams (20+) is especially key.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR DESIGN PROGRAM MANAGER:
- You have a background and experience in delivering products to market.
- You understand the role of design systems in large product companies. Ideally you have managed teams who have set one up or have worked with teams who are active users of a system.
- You have experience running large, cross-functional programs and can easily communicate status at a moment’s notice.
- You’re flexible and use your judgment to apply the model and approach that best fit with the context.
