Head of Infrastructure

My client is known for its cutting-edge technology and challenging problems. Their tech stack includes Golang, Postgres, Kubernetes, Prometheus on GCP, and specialized tools where necessary. They are seeking an exceptional engineering leader who prioritizes first principles and business value over elaborate processes. This position goes beyond the typical 9-5 job. While we have a well-functioning environment with approximately 200 fully observable active services running in production, occasional downtime is inevitable. As the engineering leader, you will be responsible for coordinating incident response.

You must strike a delicate balance between advocating for cutting-edge technology among developers and maintaining a stable operational environment. We don’t expect you to conform to a preconceived notion of what an engineering platform should be like; instead, we encourage you to shape and define it.

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading the team responsible for operating the world’s largest streaming guide.
• Taking full ownership of the platform’s continuous operation, including budget and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Contributing to the architecture and codebase; this is not solely a managerial role, and they expect everyone at the company to be hands-on when needed.
• Overseeing incident response, from paging to postmortem analysis.
• Building the roadmap and shaping the future of their development platform.

What you’ll need:

• 2+ years of experience in team leadership, in addition to several years of engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Golang, Kubernetes, and Containerized Cloud Infrastructure.
• Experience operating large-scale systems and databases.
• Basic project management skills. While our structure is lightweight, you should have delivered at least one significant project in the past.
• Located in Berlin or in close proximity to enable collaboration in the office.
