Responsibilities

Our team, supporting Military Sealift Command (MSC), has an immediate need for a Linux System Engineer to provide engineering design support for the migration of MSC’s NOC to the Navy Flank Speed Cloud Mission Owner Environment. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, deploy, and manage Linux-based systems on Microsoft Azure cloud platforms, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security
  • Configure and optimize Linux-based services and applications for Azure environments, including networking, storage, and security configurations
  • Develop automation scripts and infrastructure as code (IaC) templates using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates
  • Document monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure the health and availability of Linux systems on Azure
  • Work team of SMEs to develop architecture and design drawings for migration effort
  • Assist other SMEs in the preparation of Installation guides for an enterprise environment
  • Provide input into migration project schedule
  • Must possess current IAT II or higher security certification in accordance with IAWF DoD 8570.01M
  • Must have or be able to get within 6 months of hire, an appropriate Computing Environment or vendor certification for associated communications equipment being supported in accordance with IAWF DoD 8570.01M
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Progressive IT experience (8 years) including at least five (5) projects in technical areas included in the job description
  • Extensive experience in designing, deploying, and managing Linux-based systems, preferably in cloud environments
  • Strong expertise in Linux administration, including proficiency with command-line tools, shell scripting, and system configuration
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Machines
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs
  • Experience creating technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and how-to guides
  • Experience working with Navy customers preferred
  • Relevant certifications in Linux (e.g., LPIC, RHCE) are a plus
