Job Overview:

The Senior Microsoft BI Developer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) solutions focusing on data analytics and visualizations. This role requires a deep understanding of Microsoft BI technologies, including Power BI, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS, to drive data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a passion for leveraging data insights to support strategic objectives and improve business outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. BI Solution Development

  • Design and develop end-to-end BI solutions using Microsoft BI tools, including Power BI, SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Build and optimize data models to ensure performance and scalability.
  • Create compelling, interactive data visualizations and reports using Power BI to drive business insights.
  • Lead the migration and modernization of legacy BI systems into Microsoft BI platforms.

 

2. Data Analytics & Insights

  • Analyse large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that align with business goals.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and build dashboards to monitor them.
  • Ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity in all analytics and reports.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses to support business decisions and strategies.

 

3. Data Integration & Management

  • Develop and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Ensure data is sourced, transformed, and loaded efficiently from various systems into the data warehouse.
  • Work closely with data architects to improve the underlying data architecture and integration strategies.

 

4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with business analysts, data engineers, and other IT teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on data analytics and BI tools to mentor junior developers and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Present BI insights and dashboards to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring understanding and engagement with data-driven decisions.

 

5. Performance Optimization & Security

  • Monitor and optimize performance across BI tools, reports, and data warehouses.
  • Implement best practices for data governance, privacy, and security to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Ensure BI solutions comply with regulatory requirements and internal data standards.

 

Key Requirements:

1. Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in BI development, with at least 3 years focusing on Microsoft BI stack (Power BI, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS).
  • Proven experience in designing data visualizations and dashboards in Power BI.

 

2. Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including Power Query, DAX, and custom visuals.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases (MS SQL Server).
  • Hands-on experience with SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS for ETL, OLAP, and reporting solutions.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, star and snowflake schemas, and data modeling best practices.
  • Experience working with Azure services (Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Python or R for advanced analytics is beneficial.

 

3. Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data accuracy and business impact.
  • Leadership and mentorship experience in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

 

4. Certifications (Preferred)

  • Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (Power BI)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or equivalent
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst
