General Summary of Purpose:

As our Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the translation of conceptual solutions into a descriptive model, specification, data flow diagrams. The position leads the programming teams effort in designing, coding, implementing, and maintaining OTC enterprise systems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

• Developing complex technical design specifications that are effective and efficient, and are developed with maintainability, performance, portability, reliability, scalability, and security
• Lead functional and technical design reviews to ensure that designs meet requirements and maximize performance efficiency
• Design and document the installation and integration of complex software changes / enhancements, focusing on the functional implications
• Design software solutions that emphasize preventive versus corrective measures
• Ensure appropriate involvement of IT infrastructure staff when designing software solutions
• Develop concepts, philosophies and advanced techniques and templates for coding and/or design
• Assist and mentor less experienced staff to resolve complex problems.
• Document and communicate findings and recommendations
• Proactively monitor software performance and develop performance trend analysis.
• Assist in functional area systems issues cause determination and resolution
• Drive construction / configuration, installation, and maintaining complex application or system software
• Adhering to appropriate system development standards and process methodology.
• Lead the effort to create and maintain software development standards
• Participate in regularly rotated on-call duties: Must be available 24 hours/day to receive calls from Operators/Users, investigate and solve issues while on call.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance
• Abides by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company, Inc.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Proficient in generally accepted analysis and design techniques
• Expert on coding techniques in multiple languages (RPG, Java, VB, C ).
• Expert on multiple platforms (AS/400, Microsoft-Based Client/Server).
• Strong System Integration experience
• Expert knowledge of applications’ development/maintenance for interactive, batch, event driven, and object oriented programming
• Expert knowledge of different modes of communication (e.g. EDI, FTP, MQ Series, TCP/IP, etc.)
• Expert knowledge of different development tools. (e.g. CVS, PDM, SEU, eClipse, CRON, Job Scheduler, MKS Implementer , SQL, and Websphere Commerce Suite)
• Expert knowledge of dump analysis and debugging techniques and able to use techniques on variety of systems/applications
• Expert in testing techniques
• Able to do test set-ups and evaluate test plans for both unit and system tests.
• Broad knowledge of OTC’s Functional Business System or comparable catalog / mail order systems
• Must be able to read and navigate through numerous computer windows in an efficient manner while speaking with internal customers in order to implement enhancements, maintain systems, and correct issues

• Minimum seven years of experience in programming / analysis in a complex computer environment
