At Hourly, we are building the most advanced insurtech and payroll platform that seamlessly integrates with our workers’ comp offering, simplifying the entire process for business owners and our insurance agency partners. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating and assessing the risks associated with insuring workers’ compensation claims. You will collaborate with brokers, agents and other team members to make informed decisions that will benefit our clients and drive our business strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate risk factors related to workers compensation claims, evaluates new business submissions and all policy documentation to determine hazards and exposures associated with the prospective client and the potential for placement in our insurance programs
  • Collaborate with brokers and agents to achieve profitable underwriting results
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with brokers, agents and other team members
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients to maintain relationships and elevate the company’s reputation
  • Ensures documentation contains accurate information for underwriting including proper class codes, locations, payroll, loss information, etc
  • Reviews all submission information to provide recommendations on the proper insurance program placement, prepares and monitors insurance submission, obtains quote, and calculates proper billing rates for Clients
  • Ensures timely preparation and presentation of quote(s) to agent/broker partners
  • Assists with underwriting audits and other monitoring activities related to individual accounts or programs
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service by being prompt, courteous, professional and helpful at all times when interacting with Clients and other employees
  • Meets company standards for turnaround times, underwriting quality and underwriting volume
  • Assists other underwriters as necessary

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting workers’ compensation
  • In-depth knowledge of workers’ compensation regulations and underwriting guidelines
  • Ability to learn quickly and having excellent memory retention due to the amount of detail involved
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Outstanding customer care skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
