A not for profit Consumer Operate and Oriented Plan (CO-OP) that offered commercial health insurance in Oregon through 2015.

Chief Financial Officer/Controller

Brought in as Controller to oversee accounting and regulatory reporting functions.  Quickly promoted to Chief Financial Officer.  Worked with executive team and board of directors on strategic planning, budgeting/forecasting and cash flow analysis.  Company is currently winding down its operations.

  • Worked with third party organizations providing operations support of billing and claims processing in coordination of funding and account reconciliation.
  • Managed reinsurance contracts, claims review, recovery submissions and monthly claims liability calculations.
  • Managed all accounting functions, treasury and cash management, financial statement preparation and statutory reporting to Oregon Insurance Division, NAIC and CMS.

Hired to provide financial leadership for the organization.  Supervised the Finance Department and was a member of the executive management team, reporting directly to the CEO.

  • Managed all financial functions including cash flow management, financial statement preparation, A/P, A/R, payroll, regulatory reporting, tax preparation, claims liability estimation and budgeting process.

Health insurance carrier (commercial group, individual, Medicare) in Oregon and Washington. One of approximately 40 subsidiaries of Health Net, Inc, a publicly traded managed care organization. Health Net acquired PACC Health Plans (a not for profit regional organization) in 1998.

Finance Manager/Accounting Manager/Financial Analyst/Staff Accountant

Hired in as part of the accounting department managing all aspects of a regional insurance company.  PACC Health Plans was acquired by Health Net and combined with their local plan, QualMed.  Transitioned to Financial Analyst position after merger.  Promoted to Accounting Manager, then Finance Manager.

  • Experienced merger process from due diligence preparation, to consolidation of staff and financial operations, system conversions (claims processing, billing and financial) transfer of functions to corporate level resulting in staff reductions, transitioned from not for profit to profit organization.
  • Managed intercompany reconciliations with parent organization and other subsidiary organizations.
  • Collaborated on multiple cross functional projects including implementations of legislative changes and new lines of business, operational changes and consolidations, building relocation and reconfiguration, and software transitions.
