I’ve been designing & creating for the web for over 15 years. For the past 9, I’ve been making my designs better through User Experience. I’ve worked for companies both large and small, in all facets of the UX process, from research & testing, to wire framing, design & prototyping. I’m looking to continue growing as a UX designer & help others learn the craft. I’d love to mentor or teach Jr-level designers the in’s & out’s of UX & pass on the info I’ve learned over the years.

I've been doing website design for about 16 years. I've spent time in both large and small companies, big brands, in-house, remote, you name it. I've lead small teams of UX designers and been a part of very large UX teams, and I've also been in consulting and one-man-show positions. I have a lot of experience in the ecommerce world (Travelocity, Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Sabre) as well as the banking/credit card space (Cabela's Credit, Worldpay). I've designed things for the web, apps, mobile/responsive, and more.

While I would call myself a UX/Product designer, I do tend to stray towards the visual side of things. I excel at visual design and would say it's my strongest skill. But I am no stranger to user testing and user research as well. To me, testing your designs with users is one of the most important parts of the UX process. If you'd like to learn more about my personal design philosophy, you can check it out here: http://jaycarlsondesign.com/design-philosophy.html.

Outside of technical things, I'm very much a proponent of the user. I love to be engaged with them as much as possible. I'm also very curious and love to learn new things. I like to be pushed to find new solutions to old problems, and I love the challenge of improving a product that has been around for a while. I'm a hard worker and love to have clear goals to strive towards.

Outside of work, I love to mountain bike, listen to music, and enjoy the outdoors with my family. Life's too short to stay inside all the time!
