The Manager of Business Development contributes to the WHC mission and the organization’s resilience by supporting WHC’s Consulting Department’s business development efforts, which contribute to WHC’s financial objectives. This position is ideal for a candidate who is interested in a career in the business of nature.
This new position is ideal for an energetic, focused individual to manage the business development processes for the WHC Consulting Department, from assisting in identifying opportunities to delivering and securing scopes of work with corporations across a variety of industry sectors. A key requirement of the position will be to write and produce detailed proposals for prospective clients. The Manager reports to the Director, Consulting, and collaborates cross-departmentally and in close partnership with other members of the business development staff.
Key Responsibilities
Member Value-Creation
· Develop, write and deliver proposals and scopes of work in response to sales calls.
· Coordinate WHC Consulting engagements from start to finish, ensuring workflows, priorities and deadlines are being adhered to.
· Understand client needs and identify where business opportunities exist.
· Assist in lead generation and sales calls.
· Manage and foster client relationships, delivering high levels of customer service.
Management and Administrative
· Utilize and manage the WHC CRM Platform.
· Track consulting engagements and provide reports to internal stakeholders.
· Support creation and implementation of best practice sales processes and pipeline management.
· Perform market analysis on new clients and customer needs.
· Bachelor’s degree with, at minimum, a minor in environmental sciences or related field, or equivalent experience
· 2-5 years of experience in project management, inside or outside sales, and/or roles with high administrative and data management responsibilities
· Prior experience participating in proposal or RFP development with high degree of proficiency in writing proposals, scopes of work and agreements
· Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
· Understanding of sales processes of prospecting and closing new business opportunities
· High degree of proficiency with virtual work tools including MS Office and Microsoft Teams (or equivalent)
· Experience using Customer Relations Management (CRM) systems
· Excellent attention to detail and organization
· Ability to work across departments collaboratively
· Customer service-oriented attitude
· Ability to mirror WHC’s values and associated competencies internally and externally
Work Environment
The position is included in WHC’s dispersed workforce plan, providing the employee a choice to work out of the organization’s Bethesda, MD office or from home. This position is required to work at the annual Conservation Conference and attend twice yearly in-person staff retreats.
Position type: Full time
Salary: $52,000-$57,000
FLSA Status: Exempt
