Power Innovation Pathway Manager | New Zealand Government | New Zealand
About the role
We are looking for a forward thinking and experienced professional to be the first Power Innovation Pathway Manager – this is a new role and will form part of our Corporate and Market Services leadership team.
Are you ready to drive the future of energy innovation? This role has been created to lead and streamline the process of how the Authority supports groundbreaking projects until June 2025 (with strong potential to extend). The minimum viable product of the Pathway process has gone live on 17 September, and you will lead the end-to-end process from initial application through ongoing support, ensuring clear plans and delivery practices are in place. You’ll work with internal technical experts to review applications, conduct triage, provide regulatory advice, and work closely with successful innovators to help them advance their initiatives. Additionally, you’ll track project progress and adjust strategies to align with the Authority’s goals, while improving and iterating the Pathway itself along the way. If you have a knack for working across a broad range of stakeholders and regulatory issues, and a passion for innovation, apply now to make a significant impact in the energy sector.
Are you someone with the following?
This position requires someone with experience in regulated sectors (ideally in the energy sector) and a talent for stakeholder engagement. You will have a proven track record in managing high-priority projects and delivering successful outcomes. If you’ve worked with senior leaders and across diverse teams, and can navigate complex and ambiguous situations independently, we want to hear from you. Join us and leverage your skills to make a significant impact in the energy sector.
Our ideal candidate will bring:
- innovation experience in the energy sector (or other regulated sectors) with a deep understanding of industry dynamics and stakeholder engagement
- ability to work independently and effectively handle complex, ambiguous situations with strategic thinking and adaptability
- excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels
- a proven ability to deliver and embed change in a range of environments with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
About us
Consumers’ best interests are at the heart of everything we do. We work to achieve a secure and resilient, accessible and efficient electricity system to keep the lights on and provide choices for consumers in accessing the energy they need now and in the future.
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko (Authority) regulates the electricity industry, sets the market rules, and conducts operational activities to ensure the electricity system and markets run effectively. We work to create a competitive, reliable and efficient electricity industry for the long-term benefit of consumers and New Zealand.
It’s an exciting time to work in the electricity industry. New Zealand has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with the Government intent on doubling the supply of renewable electricity generation to help New Zealand become a lower-emissions economy.
Our work is varied and diverse, with opportunities to drive change across the electricity sector to improve the lives of New Zealanders.
Why work for us?
We believe in maintaining a healthy work-life balance and we offer a range of benefits to support our teams in achieving this.
The starting salary range for this role is $152,844 to $191,056, and we’re open to negotiating higher for the right candidate based on your skills and experience.

- Flexible work arrangements to suit your lifestyle
- Ongoing training, support, and professional development to help you grow
