The Opportunity

The National Rabbit Management Coordinator will deliver national coordination activities aimed at increasing adoption of best practice rabbit management. The role will see you make impact and work collaboratively with industry to reduce the impacts of wild rabbits on agricultural productivity, the environment, and specifically threatened species.

The Role

As the National Rabbit Management Coordinator, you will build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. These include the Project Steering Committee, government representatives (Commonwealth, State, Local), the Principal Research, Development & Extension Manager, CISS employees, program leaders, and national coordinators. You will collaborate with the Australian Rabbit Managers Network, The Project Steering Committee (once formed), research partners, industry, NRMs, and community groups.
You will have the following key responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with Australian, state, and territory governments, raise awareness about the importance of wild rabbit management and available control methods for land managers
  • Facilitate engagement between governments, NRMs, land managers, industry, and NGOs to promote humane and effective rabbit control at a regional level
  • Implement a national communication plan, including newsletters and social media, to encourage behaviour change towards best practices
  • Support the adoption of these techniques by working with networks across Australia
  • Review and enhance the PestSmart rabbit toolkit, create new resources as needed, and coordinate a review of the National Rabbit Code of Practice (CoP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Work with relevant parties to improve instructional guidance (where needed) on how control tools need to be applied to maximise effectiveness
  • Maintain collaboration with other National Coordinators on pest control and biodiversity programs, including the Rabbit Threat Abatement Plan

 
The Ideal Person

You will have relevant tertiary qualifications and an understanding of natural resource management, combined with a passion for improving outcomes for Australian industry and the environment and minimising harm caused by invasive species.
 
As a National Coordinator, your role is to use your excellent stakeholder engagement to build networks and create on ground communities that will advocate for and apply best practice in managing wild rabbits.
 
Essential experience/knowledge:

  • Aptitude to develop wild rabbit management, biocontrol, and pest control programs particularly at the interface between research and practical application
  • Ability to manage and drive leading national or large-scale projects and manage stakeholder engagement across diverse groups to achieve desired outcomes
  • Communication and highly developed stakeholder engagement and ability to build relationships – this role will represent CISS at forums, committees and in community engagement
  • Skills in conflict resolution and community engagement

  • Adaptable and flexible – is comfortable dealing with ambiguity and implementing change.
  • Can manage high intensity situations and remain calm under pressure.
  • Shape strategic thinking on key issues consistent with best practice management and CISS’ strategic direction
  • Communicate with, influence and cultivate productive working relationships with a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders

Salary / Rate

  • Salary of $100k – $110k + 11.5% Super (depending on experience) Full-time fixed term position
  • Hybrid WFH arrangement available – 60/40 (60% in office, 40% from home) after initial induction period (If ACT based)
  • Fully remote position if outside of Canberra
