As an Underwriter specializing in processing renewals for a Managing General Underwriter (MGU), you will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting renewal applications for general liability insurance policies tailored for construction contractors. The Renewal Underwriter will ensure that all renewals meet the company’s underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards while maintaining profitability and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess renewal applications for general liability insurance policies for construction contractors.
  • Analyze risk factors and exposure related to the contractor’s operations, safety records, claims history, and financial stability.
  • Determine appropriate pricing, coverage, and terms for renewal policies.
  • Approve, modify, or decline renewal applications based on underwriting guidelines and risk assessment.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers or agents as necessary.
  • Ensure all underwriting decisions and actions are documented accurately and thoroughly.
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on renewal underwriting activities.
  • Collaborate with brokers and agents to gather necessary information and resolve any issues related to renewal applications.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support to brokers, agents, and policyholders.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and rationale clearly and professionally.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks related to construction contractors and general liability insurance.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of underwriting guidelines and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Risk Management & Insurance majors a plus (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of underwriting experience, preferably in general liability insurance for construction contractors.
  • Proven track record of successfully underwriting and processing renewals.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or AU are a plus.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and tools.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
