Starlight supports seriously ill kids and their families at more than 800 children’s hospitals across the US by distributing programs like Starlight Gaming, Gowns, Virtual Reality and Toy Deliveries.
JOB DESCRIPTION
At Starlight, we believe in leveraging the power of compelling storytelling and strategic marketing to engage, educate and inspire our donors. The Email & Digital Marketing Specialist is a creative, data-driven position that owns the execution of email marketing campaigns and contributes to content creation across digital platforms. Your focus will be on driving engagement, increasing conversions and building strong relationships with our audiences through impactful messaging. The successful candidate will be an experienced email marketer and fundraiser with proven success driving revenue. This person will have experience working with automation and personalization, list segmentation, and have the technical and data-proficiency needed to hit the ground running.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create email lifecycles and donor journeys, developing, managing and executing campaigns from ideation to delivery, ensuring alignment with brand voice and organizational objectives
- Grow Starlight’s email marketing list through lead generation and automated journeys, taking supporters on the journey to their first donation to Starlight, retaining current donors and increasing revenue through campaigns or converting from one-time donors to monthly givers
- Deploy other Starlight email communications such as hospital, family and partner newsletters, working collaboratively with departments across the organization.
- Build, test, and publish emails in Salesforce Account Management and incorporate third-party tools such as Movable Ink.
- Analyze campaign performance metrics and provide actionable insights to suggest improvements and optimizations for future campaigns.
- Maintain database, supporter records, list segmentation and clean-up
- Manage third party vendors that are part of our email ecosystem and ensure we are using them optimally
- Write engaging storytelling copy to be used in email and work closely with the rest of Marketing & Communications to ensure that messaging, storytelling, and CTAs are cohesive and optimized across channels
- Collaborate with Paid Marketing and Individual Giving teams to set up, monitor and optimize campaigns, defining and refining audience segmentation strategies, creating custom audiences based on user behaviors, demographics and donation history.
- Assist in writing copy and aiding in refinement of landing pages to support campaign goals and other website content maintenance or updates.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Please submit a portfolio of 2-3 writing samples or stories when applying
- 3-5 years of experience in email and digital marketing, with a proven track record of growing engagement and revenue.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field
- Proficiency in key platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud products and Account Management and experience with marketing automation workflows and segmentation techniques
- Strong writing, editing and storytelling expertise, with an understanding of brand voice
- Industry experience with nonprofits, healthcare preferred, not required
- Analytic thinker who is comfortable interpreting data and making strategic recommendations
- Ability to work effectively, remotely, and gain the respect of various constituencies including senior corporate executives and decision makers
- Excellent judgment, comfort with risk-taking and non-routine work
- Ability to work and communicate cross-functionally in a high energy environment
- An individual with strong people skills and demonstrated team player
- A strong negotiator with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude
