Primary Purpose
The Product Owner is responsible for defining and prioritizing the product backlog and ensuring the delivery of product increments that meet the desired outcomes. They collaborate closely with the development team and stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals. The Product Owner supports the implementation of strategic objectives set by Software Development leaders and plays a key role in maximizing the product’s value.
Responsibilities
- Define and prioritize the product backlog based on stakeholder feedback, business value, and strategic goals.
- Develop detailed user stories and acceptance criteria for product requirements, ensuring clarity and completeness to guide the development team in creating valuable features that meet end-user needs.
- Collaborate proactively with the development team to ensure a shared understanding and alignment of product goals and requirements. Act as the voice of the customer, providing insights and guidance to the team throughout the development process.
- Plan and manage product increments and releases strategically, balancing team capacity, technical dependencies, and business priorities to deliver maximum value within set timelines.
- Facilitate product demos and reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
- Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Use these meetings to foster communication, identify challenges, and drive continuous improvement within the team.
- Provide clear, actionable guidance and clarification on product requirements to the development team, ensuring that all team members understand the ‘why’ behind each feature and how it contributes to the overall product vision.
- Act as a liaison between stakeholders and the development team to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Assist with secondary tasks such as communication, advertising, and the development of training materials and/or user guides as needed.
- Evangelize the product within and outside the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a public health, clinical, science, technology, or related discipline.
- Incumbent typically will possess at least 5 years of experience working as part of a software development or implementation team in any role, 2 of which must be as a product manager or equivalent role. Years of experience requirements are not cumulative.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with data reporting and analytics.
- Knowledge of key concepts related to software product management is required.
- Supervisory experience over other Product Managers is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive and detail oriented.
- Experience working in a Scrum team is preferred.
- CSPO and/or CSM certification is preferred.
- Experience with drawing tools and UX design is preferred.
- Experience working in a clinical research or health care domain is preferred.
- Experience conducting software demos and marketing presentations is preferred.
- A degree in public health, science, or computer related field is preferred.
- Working knowledge of browser debugging tools is preferred.
