Our client is a large Commonwealth Government Department. This high-profile department works across a varied remit aiming to deliver the Government’s climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia’s environment and resources. This is a great department to gain experience in and is looked upon positively by other APS employers.
You’ll join a specialist policy and program team that administers Commonwealth-State federation funding agreements for infrastructure projects that aim to improve the management of some of Australia’s critical environmental resources. The team is highly flexible in terms of work from home arrangements, with the ability to work from home for the majority of the week (up to 4 days per week).
The Opportunity
There is an opportunity for an APS5 Program Officer to join a program delivery branch. This position will be offered on permanent s26 transfers (for permanent APS staff) or a 12-month non-ongoing contract with extension (for non-permanent APS staff).

The Role
The key responsibilities of the position include:
- Provide administrative and secretariat support to the section in program and business management
- Draft government communication products such as Senate Estimates briefs, ministerial correspondence and ministerial submissions
- Support the delivery of existing projects including milestone assessments and managing funding agreements
- Assist in coordinating the processing of milestone payment briefs for funding agreements with state and territory governments
- Assist the section in confidently and professionally engaging with external stakeholders including state and territory governments, other Australian Government departments and internal stakeholders in the department
- Contribute to a respectful, open, and high-performing team culture
The Ideal Person
To be successful in this role, you will have experience in a program or project support position in a Commonwealth or State Government environment.
You will also have:
- Experience in supporting program or project administration including monitoring project performance, timelines and reporting
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and experience building and sustaining positive relationships as part of a team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adapt language to different audiences
- Ability to achieve results and meet deadlines, including the ability to prioritise effectively
- A positive approach to teamwork and collaboration but also an ability to work independently and on your own initiative
- Good critical thinking, professional judgement and problem-solving skills
- A commitment to continuous improvement and responding positively to change
To be eligible for these roles, you must be an Australian citizen. You must also have, or be willing to obtain, a Baseline security clearance.
Salary / Rate
- $81k – $90k + 15.4% Super
- If you are currently a permanent APS staff member, you can be engaged on a permanent s26 transfer. Otherwise, you can be engaged on a 12-month non-ongoing contract with view to permanency
- Location: Canberra or Brisbane
- Flexible work from home arrangements available
