General Counsel | Carlyle Kingswood Global | Australia

CKG Search has partnered with a highly regarded and globally recognised organisation to recruit an experienced commercial lawyer. This senior-level role will provide executive legal leadership across commercial, strategic, regulatory, and operational areas.

The General Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor, advancing the organisation’s goals by overseeing all legal services, ensuring compliance, and providing counsel on complex matters to senior leaders, including the Board, Executive Team, and senior management. This role also includes oversight of key business functions, positioning the General Counsel as a trusted partner in strategic initiatives.

As the lead lawyer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing executive-level legal advice on commercial, regulatory, and strategic matters.
  • Managing relationships with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and proactively mitigate risks.
  • Driving best practices throughout the organisation, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Partnering with senior managers and providing legal and commercial support to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Leading litigation and dispute resolution efforts, representing the organisation’s interests.
  • Developing a high-performing, collaborative legal team that values commerciality, service, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Overseeing resource management, including budgeting, panel firm relationships, and recruitment within the legal function.
  • Prioritising team leadership, mentorship, and professional development as key responsibilities.

Our client is offering:

  • A leadership role in an organisation committed to excellence and growth.
  • An inclusive work culture that prioritises professional development.
  • The opportunity to lead and manage a highly effective legal team.
  • Influence over the organisation’s legal and compliance framework.
  • Hybrid (3:2) and flexible working arrangements.
  • A competitive remuneration package and a comprehensive benefits suite.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:

  • A law degree and admission to practice in Australia with an unrestricted practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • A minimum of 10 years of senior experience in corporate or commercial law.
  • In-house or extensive secondment experience is essential, ideally gained in complex, regulated sectors such as financial services, logistics, education, public institutions, or non-profits.
  • Proven ability to lead complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable guidance to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • High levels of integrity, emotional intelligence, and a solution-oriented approach to legal challenges.
  • Strong leadership experience with a focus on team development and fostering an ethical, collaborative work environment.

This role is ideal for a senior lawyer with experience in team leadership, building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, and balancing competing priorities. The successful candidate will bring a strategic mindset, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within a globally recognised organisation that prioritises equity, transformation, and connectedness.
