- Manage Donor Portfolio: Oversee a portfolio of 150 high-net-worth individuals, focusing on securing funds for university projects and achieving annual financial targets.
- Prospect Research: Identify and research potential donors and funding sources. Develop strategies and plans for engaging and soliciting donations, involving key university staff and external volunteers.
- Prospect Management: Create and implement individual plans for managing prospects. Take the lead in meeting potential donors, identifying their interests, and assessing their support potential.
- Proposal Development: Collaborate with university leaders to identify funding needs. Develop and present professional written proposals to potential donors, using various presentation tools.
- Communication and Materials: Work with the Advancement team, Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), and Marketing and Communications Office to create high-quality communication materials. Conduct research and draft targeted content following Notre Dame standards.
- University Knowledge: Stay informed about university activities to effectively communicate the institution’s strengths and make a compelling case for donor support.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records and project details using the Raiser’s Edge/NXT database. Ensure all contact management and donor reporting information is up to date.
- Training and Compliance: Participate in training as identified by the line manager. Adhere to university policies and procedures in all work activities.
- Educational Background: Postgraduate qualifications in business, marketing, communications, or similar fields, or a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Fundraising Experience: Proven experience in fundraising within the not-for-profit or educational sectors, with a strong emphasis on major gift strategies and tactics, delivering significant financial results.
- Professional Recognition: Recognition of professional achievement or membership in relevant industry bodies such as CFRE, MFIA, CASE, FIA, or Educate Plus.
- Prospect Management: Demonstrated strengths in identifying qualified prospects, cultivating philanthropic relationships, and securing major gifts, in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex projects with ambitious timelines, working effectively and persuasively with a diverse range of internal stakeholders, including academic and professional staff.
- Independent and Teamwork: Ability to work autonomously on complex projects and relationships while maintaining strong team connections.
- Proposal Writing and Presentation: Proven ability to write and present well-considered proposals at an executive level, using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or other relevant media to engage, inspire, and persuade prospective supporters.
- Administrative Skills: Superior administrative skills with advanced attention to detail and proficiency in MS Office and relationship-management databases such as Raiser’s Edge/NXT.
- Industry Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the fundraising sector and the higher education industry.

About the role
The Advancement Manager, Major Gifts (AM, MG) secures significant philanthropic funding, from high-net-worth individuals (HNWI), as well as and Trusts and Foundations, to empower to the Objects and strategy of the university. The AM, MG works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), the Vice Chancellor, Executive Deans, Heads of Schools and researchers in identifying funding needs and opportunities. Concurrently, the role identifies new HNWI prospects, and then engages, solicits, and secures significant gifts to empower the outcomes of the university.
