The IT team provides information technology solutions to enable research outcomes and Garvan’s operational activities, ultimately supporting Garvan’s strategic aim to ‘make it easy to do great science’. The IT group is organised into cross-functional teams spanning applications, infrastructure, data, security and operations.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Project Manager is multi-faceted role and will be responsible for:
- IT Delivery in a hybrid Project Manager/Business Analyst capacity for a limited set of high priority projects that qualify as high impact and/or drive significant strategic change.
- Preparing inputs for the IT Steering Committee, business case formulation and project reporting, to ensure decision making is effective and efficient, and supports the objective that the IT Steering Committee becomes the primary body through which IT project approvals occur.
Salary: Up to $170,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)
Employment Type: One year full time term contract. Hybrid environment – 3 days a week on site and 2 days working from home.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The key responsibilities include:
- Management and coordination of complex projects from project inception through to completion including the management of multiple significant projects concurrently
- IT Delivery in a hybrid Project Manager/Business Analyst capacity for a limited set of high priority projects that qualify as high impact and/or drive significant strategic change
- Prepare inputs for the IT Steering Committee, business case formulation and project reporting, to ensure decision making is effective and efficient, and supports the objective that the IT Steering Committee becomes the primary body through which IT project approvals occur.
- Strong business analysis focus to determine project scope, capture business requirements, and evaluation and recommend solutions.
- Project manage system implementations, including rollout and evaluate system usage post go-live.
- To provide accurate and timely reporting projects within them, ensuring risks and issues, dependencies etc are appropriately managed, identified, controlled and, where appropriate, mitigated
- Communicating with stakeholders to identify and develop new project opportunities, communicate progress, and ensure the timely completion of projects in alignment with set goals
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience include:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management and/or a related administrative discipline
- Track record and demonstrated experience in program/project management, including the capacity to manage multiple projects on time and on budget, with a high degree of independence
- Ability to work flexibly within a variety of project delivery paradigms, particularly waterfall and Agile, as the project and stakeholders demand.
- Good judgement, balancing risk and grappling with complex technical issues and operational challenges
- Highly organised and capable of managing a complex and dynamic workload with strong emotional quotient
- Will have the ability to communicate effectively and develop relationships with customers and colleagues up to and including C-Suite.
