The Canadian Lead Payroll specialist reports to the Manager of Americas Payroll and is a key role in the OpenText Global Payroll function.
As one of our largest populations, the Americas is a growing and complex population for payroll processing as OpenText looks to implement new scalable payroll platforms that we can leverage to handle our employee population growth.
As a result, the Lead Payroll Specialist opportunity is 70% functional payroll processing and 30% technical project implementation. You will be joining a team then responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll for our Canadian entities within OpenText as well as assisting with payroll system configurations & implementations. You’ll have visibility and interactions with key stakeholders in Information Technology, Human Resources, uHLegal, Accounting etc as you leverage your past experiences in problem solving and process improvement efforts.
The primary focus for the Lead Payroll Specialist will be payroll tasks for our Canadian employees, including the data input, related audits/edits of that data, relevant reporting, and interacting with other payroll team members. The project work includes assisting with migrating subsets of employees onto our ADP Globalview platform with integration into our global HCM system, SAP SuccessFactors.
Potential cross-over payroll work/experiences with the US payroll is a possibility as OpenText values the ability to process and understand multiple country payrolls.
This position is accountable for providing a high level of customer service to all Payroll stakeholders, including but not limited to employees, Human Resources, Finance, and other Payroll team members with a focus on confidentiality. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and initiative as well as excellent working knowledge of payroll practices. You’ll gain visibility to Sr Management during the completion of these tasks.
What The Role Offers
- Working in a fast paced, highly matrixed, large company environment
- Ensure process payments to Canadian employees are within strict deadlines.
- Operating within a Managed Services delivery model with ADP, liaise with Payroll provider (ADP GlobalView), Human Resources, Variable Compensation and Finance throughout the pay process.
- Previous system implementation projects (ADP GV, Success Factors experience highly valuable)
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Audit the information that interfaces from the HR system for accuracy.
- Verification and reconciliation of each payroll run and resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
- Ensure that necessary government filings and remittances relative to payroll are made in a timely manner including but not limited to garnishments, tax slips and taxes.
- Complete Year-End Process and file all applicable tax year-end filings.
- Identify and process taxable benefits.
- Deal with requests and correspondence promptly and efficiently.
- Assist employees with payroll requests and questions in a timely manner.
- Administration of Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP) and Stock Options as related to payroll.
- Applicable year-end reporting of ESPP and Stock Options.
- Pension remittances and reporting.
- Provide Finance with GL details and assist in reconciliations and research.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes and compliance issues.
- Handling special requests as needed (e.g., audit, compensation, legal inquiries)
What You Need To Succeed
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in Canadian Payroll, with an international company with multiple legal entities
- Experience with outsourced payroll packages (ADP Globalview, Streamline, Celergo, etc.) strongly preferred.
- SAP SuccessFactors HCM experience
- Experience with projects such as implementing new payroll platforms and systems integrations.
- Microsoft Office
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
- Detailed oriented.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a co-operative team member.
- Organized with an ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while working towards strict deadlines.
- Strong issue resolution skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
- Proactive with the ability to take initiative.
- Can work independently or as a co-operative team member.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Second Language skill considered an asset.
- Profession certification / membership in the Canadian Payroll Association is a strong reference.
- PLP preferred.
