We are seeking an experienced and motivated sustainability focused Consulting Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in management or economic consulting, excellent client management skills, and a deep understanding of impact measurement or sustainability issues. As a Sustainability Consulting Manager, you will lead consulting projects, manage client relationships, and oversee a team of talented analysts to ensure successful project delivery.  

Key Responsibilities: 
 

1. Lead sustainability consulting projects and their teams 

Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, prepare proposals, and pitch our services to potential clients. 

Project managements: Lead and manage consulting projects from initiation to completion, overseeing report and presentation composition, ensuring deliverables are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. 

Client Interaction: Develop and maintain strong client relationships, understand their needs, and ensure high levels of client satisfaction. 

Team Leadership: Mentor and manage junior analysts, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional growth and project success. 

Strategy Development: Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategies that align with the firm’s goals and objectives. 

Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of deliverables meets the firm’s high standards and client expectations. 

 

2. Collect, interpret and communicate complex data  

Metric Design: Propose metrics that quantify sustainability performance with respect to identified material issues, and that facilitate benchmarking with comparable entities. 

Data Contextualisation: Contextualise sustainability data with narratives explaining internal company operations and external operating environment. 

Data Interpretation: Identify meaningful patterns in data and choose charts and other visualisation tools that highlight those patterns.  

Data Communication: Describe results through reports and graphics that are tailored to clients’ key audiences. 

 

3. Align consulting advice with sustainability and impact measurement best practices. 

Sustainability Materiality: Identify the most important sustainability issues to clients’ organisations and their stakeholders 

Impact Investment Justification: Gather evidence to justify clients’ impact improvements.  

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: Design impact monitoring and reporting processes designed to prove and improve the effectiveness of impact initiatives. 

Standards Alignment: Ensure that Ithaca Impact’s advice aligns with the relevant third-party sustainability Standards, Frameworks, Regulations and Guidance. 

 

To be successful in the role you’ll need: 

bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or data driven field (e.g., economics, statistics, business) 

minimum of 8 years of experience in consulting, preferably in economic consulting, management consulting or impact measurement 

proven ability to lead and manage teams 

strong organisational and multitasking abilities 

history of working on sustainability-related consulting projects 

critical thinking skills, asking thoughtful questions that draw out cause and effect 

ability to manipulate data and build models in Microsoft Excel  

excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write and present highly polished reports. 

to be able to build rapport with new people quickly 

an entrepreneurial spirit, with a willingness to work in a small business environment  

to be a self-starter who takes responsibility for project completion with limited to no oversight 

to be located in Australia and be willing to travel occasionally to Brisbane, as required. 

An ideal candidate also has: 

post-graduate qualifications in a data driven field (e.g., Economics, Statistics, Business) 

strong understanding of impact measurement and evaluation methodologies 

experience with measuring the impact using monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) tools
