The Role

As a Senior Backend Developer at Kanpla, you will be the driving force behind our API architecture. You’ll set the vision for how we design, document, version, and maintain our APIs—creating a solid foundation for our backend ecosystem. We’re looking for an experienced developer who will establish best practices, ensure our APIs are both secure and scalable, and mentor team members to raise the bar across the board.

What You’ll Do

• Set the API Direction: Define and implement a forward-looking API strategy that covers everything from documentation and versioning to monitoring, testing, and deprecation.
• Build Scalable Systems: Design and develop robust backend infrastructure that supports a wide range of product features and third-party integrations.
• Champion Security & Performance: Ensure every API endpoint is built with security top-of-mind and optimised for speed and reliability.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with frontend, product, and other backend engineers to build cohesive, end-to-end solutions.
• Support Partners & Stakeholders: Empower partners with the tools, knowledge, and guidance they need to integrate successfully and efficiently.

What We’re Looking For

• Extensive API Experience: A proven track record of architecting and managing scalable, well-documented, and versioned APIs.
• Technical Depth in JS/TS: Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and strong experience with Node.js, Express, or similar frameworks.
• API Lifecycle Mastery: Familiarity with the full API lifecycle—documentation, versioning, deprecation, monitoring, and testing.
• Third-Party Integration Skills: Expertise in securely integrating and managing external APIs and platforms.
• Cloud & Database Know-How: Experience deploying on cloud platforms and optimizing both relational and non-relational databases. We run on Vercel, Google Cloud and Firestore.
• Problem-Solving Chops: A talent for dissecting complex challenges and delivering effective solutions quickly.
