As the Lead Data Scientist/Data Engineer, you will be integral in architecting, developing, and overseeing the data infrastructure that bolsters the measurement and verification of soil carbon removal credits. You will collaborate closely with agronomists, land managers, and software engineers to produce data-driven insights that inform our strategic data initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a robust data strategy in alignment with our mission.
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable data architectures, pipelines, and databases for extensive quantification of soil carbon removals.
- Oversee the collection, integration, and validation of data from diverse sources, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Spearhead the development of data-driven Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) solutions to monitor and report on land management practices.
- Drive the creation and deployment of advanced analytics and predictive algorithms to enhance measurement capabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data solutions effectively into our carbon management platform.
- Generate and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide actionable insights to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.
Required Skills
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, and database management (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and big data technologies.
- Strong expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
- Knowledge of GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of conveying complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in data science, data engineering, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field; a PhD is a plus.
- Experience in developing MRV systems for carbon projects is a significant advantage.
- Previous startup experience is preferred, but an understanding of working in a high-growth environment is essential.
