Join a leading environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding the health of local waterways and communities. We are on the lookout for a results-driven and organized Development & Events Manager to enhance our team. This pivotal role focuses on institutional fundraising, grant writing, and event coordination, offering a significant opportunity for career growth and professional development within a mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the Associate Director and other key personnel to further our fundraising goals and community engagement initiatives. Previous experience in environmental organizations is advantageous but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Grant Writing & Management: Conduct thorough research on foundation, corporate, and governmental grants to uncover potential funding opportunities; maintain an organized database and timeline for proposal submissions; assist in crafting compelling cases for support and template grant requests; oversee the drafting and submission of grant proposals; prepare essential progress reports for funders.
- Fundraising Administration: Manage the functionality of fundraising systems and donor databases, tracking donations and pledges, orchestrating donor acknowledgments, analyzing data, and conducting prospect research. Develop targeted prospect and email lists. Support fundraising initiatives and donor cultivation efforts. Refine and implement stewardship strategies.
- Event Management: Lead the execution of key programmatic and fundraising events aimed at attracting new donors, members, and volunteers, alongside educational initiatives for the public and ecosystem partners. Manage the project coordination of 6-10 events that align with our various campaigns and fundraising objectives, including signature annual events, eco salons, donor house parties, and research symposiums.
- Administrative Support: Perform essential administrative tasks, including the preparation of reports for the board of directors and committees; actively participate in staff meetings and collaborative activities; manage timesheets, work plans, and budgets; oversee the recruitment and supervision of interns and volunteers as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will exhibit an enthusiastic, innovative, and methodical approach to fundraising and environmental advocacy. Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in fundraising, project management, and event coordination
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating complex policy issues into clear and persuasive narratives
- Proficiency in project management, including timeline development and budget oversight
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize strategic goals
- Familiarity with fundraising and project management platforms, preferably Microsoft Suite, Asana, Qgiv, and/or Bloomerang
- Previous involvement in environmental issues, whether in a professional, academic, or volunteer capacity, is a plus
- Capacity to operate effectively in a dynamic environment, managing multiple projects under tight deadlines

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Some evening and weekend work may be necessary for events throughout the year
- Travel within LA County with access to a reliable vehicle is required
- Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and perform desk-based tasks
- Clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged for all staff and personnel attending events and meetings.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: (73,000 – )78,000 based on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Associate Director.
- Comprehensive benefits package including paid health, vision, and dental insurance; 403(b) retirement plan with matching contributions; hybrid work options (remote and in-office); generous paid time off policy; 13 annual holidays; and a winter break from December 25 to January 1.
