About this role

  • Fixed term, full-time contract (June 30 2026) with possibility of extension
  • 1FTE (37.6 hours per week) working across Monday to Friday

The Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in driving WAAMH’s communication and community engagement efforts. This position involves crafting, editing, and scheduling content across various digital platforms, including websites and social media channels like LinkedIn and Instagram. By leveraging innovative digital tools and technologies, the Officer will enhance community engagement, raise awareness, and promote key initiatives such as Mental Health Week.

To thrive in this role, you will bring extensive experience in communications, media, or a related field. You will have a proven track record of successfully collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to manage and communicate on complex issues effectively.

This position works under the direction of the Manager Operations and Business Development.  It is responsible for creating and refining a communication and media engagement strategy that aligns with WAAMH objectives and targets, revise style guidelines to ensure consistent tone, voice, and branding across all platforms and work with management to develop governance procedures to ensure compliance with organisational policies and ethical standards.

About You

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective strategies aligned with business objectives across multiple platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook)
  • Expertise in crafting visually appealing and engaging content using tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar graphic design platforms, tailored for diverse audiences and platform requirements.
  • Strong skills in fostering meaningful interactions through proactive and diplomatic participation in online discussions, building rapport, and driving positive brand perception.
  • Experience in monitoring and managing social media content to address reputational risks, handle sensitive topics, and maintain audience trust.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Hootsuite) to track performance metrics, generate reports, and refine strategies based on insights.
  • Capability to educate and support internal teams, fostering consistent social media practices and empowering them to contribute effectively to social initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple campaigns, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining high attention to detail.

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, public relations or equivalent demonstrated experience 
  • Experience in developing and implementing communications plans and strategies.
  • Experience in public relations, media, marketing and advertising. 
  • A creative and innovative mindset with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Highly effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure while meeting strict and competing deadlines.
  • Capacity to work both independently and constructively as part of a team to meet shared objectives.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, using own initiative.
  • Hold a current National Police Certificate.

Desirable

  • Experience with using CRM software. 
  • Lived experience of mental health issues and recovery as a consumer, carer or family member.
  • A culturally and/or gender and sexuality diverse background.
