Our client is a large Commonwealth Government Department. This high-profile department works across a varied remit aiming to deliver the Government’s climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia’s environment and resources. You’ll join a specialist policy and program team that administers Commonwealth-State federation funding agreements for infrastructure projects that aim to improve the management of some of Australia’s critical environmental resources.
 
The Opportunity

There is an opportunity for an APS6 Senior Program Officer to join a program delivery branch. This position will be offered on permanent s26 transfers (for permanent APS staff) or a 12-month non-ongoing contract with extension (for non-permanent APS staff).
 
This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Progress your career in the APS with the ability to act up to the EL1 level when Executive Level staff in the team go on leave
  • Support a significant program of work involving the management of federation funding agreements with state and territory governments
  • Be part of a Branch that oversees programs, projects and initiatives that deliver billions of dollars of investment across Australia
  • Benefit from flexible work arrangements with the ability to work from home three days per week

The Role

The key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Actively manage the delivery of existing projects including milestone assessments and managing funding agreements that are primarily with states under the Federal Financial Relations (FFR) framework
  • Work with state environmental agencies to deliver projects/programs and support stakeholder engagement activities
  • Provide administrative and secretariat support for interdepartmental committees
  • Develop various documents such as reports, briefs, ministerial correspondence and talking points to provide high quality advice to the Senior Executive and the Minister
  • Represent the department as required at a wide range of interjurisdictional and other external meetings
  • Contributing to a respectful, open, fun and high-performing team culture

The Ideal Person

To be successful in this role, you will have experience at the APS6 level in a program management role in Commonwealth government.
 
You will also have:

  • Experience in supporting Commonwealth programs including monitoring project performance, timelines and reporting
  • Well-developed analytical and research skills to provide evidence-based advice
  • Strong writing skills in a government context in order to deliver briefings and papers on complex issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to identify emerging opportunities or issues and effectively prioritise tasks

To be eligible for these roles, you must be an Australian citizen. You must also have a Baseline security clearance.
 
Salary / Rate

  • $91k – $104k + 15.4% Super
  • If you are currently a permanent APS staff member, you can be engaged on a permanent s26 transfer. Otherwise, you can be engaged on a 12-month non-ongoing contract with view to permanency
  • Location: Canberra
  • Flexible work from home arrangements available up to three days per week
