About the role | Ko te mahi nei
Operating across all areas of the Council via a shared service model, the Asset Engineer – Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) has responsibility for continuously maintaining and developing the Councils 3 Waters Electrical, Instrumentation & Control systems, including SCADA and maintaining the associated renewals programmes, specifications and standards associated with such assets.
Using your broad knowledge and experience you will support planning, project delivery, asset management and operation and maintenance teams. You will also drive improvements to processes, quality standards, design standards and supporting the Long-Term Planning process.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
To succeed in this role, you will be computer literate, have strong communication skills and ideally have some knowledge or experience of asset management systems. Your previous roles have seen you providing analysis and advice, requiring you to keep up to date with current regulations and associated standards. You will also bring with you:
- A tertiary level qualification in engineering (BEng) or equivalent in discipline
- 10 years of experience with 3 waters reticulated infrastructure, electrical and control systems or similar
- Sound and proven experience in automation systems design with a practical and theoretical appreciation and knowledge of industrial networking and protocols and SCADA software
- Knowledge and experience with local government and asset management practices would be an advantage.
As an engineering professional you will be highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to build strong relationships and handle the ambiguity of opposing ideas or views.

Hours of work – 37.5 – 40 hours per week
Position – Permanent
Location – This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices – 53 Hereford Street
Salary – The salary band for this position goes from $111,553 to $123,948 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
