The Opportunity

It is a very exciting time at The Kids Research Institute Australia as we continue to evolve from what began in the 1980’s as a vision to create a world-class child health research hub. We have recently changed our name from the Telethon Kids Institute, but we continue to achieve our vision of happy, healthy kids!

We are building a robust scientific platform on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support high-impact research in public health, with a focus on geospatial health data and analytics. This platform will manage, analyse and visualise complex datasets, providing our researchers with scalable infrastructure and tools to answer critical questions in child health, disease epidemiology, and population wellbeing. We seek an AWS Architect to join our team, responsible for designing and maintaining the cloud infrastructure that powers this cutting-edge scientific work.

As the AWS Architect, you’ll play a crucial role in creating and managing a scalable, secure, and cost-efficient AWS-based platform for health research and geospatial analytics. You will work closely with our development and research teams to design cloud-based solutions, implement best practices in security and compliance, and optimize performance. Your expertise will directly impact our ability to manage large datasets, run complex analytical models, and visualize results in ways that drive public health decision-making.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Architect, design and implement AWS cloud infrastructure to support large-scale scientific data processing, storage and analysis.
  • Develop, test and deploy robust AWS solutions, integrating services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, EKS and AWS Batch to create a resilient and cost-efficient platform.
  • Ensure cloud environment security by implementing AWS security best practices, including IAM policies, encryption, VPC configurations and network security.
  • and data scientists to support the integration of scientific models, geospatial data workflows and large datasets.
  • Work with software developers and researchers to monitor system performance and optimize resources to ensure efficient scaling, availability and cost control.

This is a full-time position based at Perth Children’s Hospital for a two-year period.
