A Civil Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, water systems, and infrastructure. Their role combines technical expertise with project management skills to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Design:
- Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resources required.
- Collaborate with architects, environmental engineers, and other stakeholders in the design process.
- Conduct feasibility studies and prepare cost estimates for projects.
- Create technical drawings, plans, and specifications using CAD software or other engineering tools.
- Site Supervision & Construction Management:
- Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, labor forces, and materials suppliers.
- Monitor progress on site and make necessary adjustments to meet project milestones.
- Conduct site inspections and quality control checks.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Manage project budgets and ensure costs stay within the approved budget.
- Track project expenditures and materials usage.
- Source and manage materials, equipment, and labor required for the project.
- Problem Solving & Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and issues related to construction and design and develop solutions.
- Resolve technical issues that arise during the design and construction phases.
- Ensure that environmental, safety, and regulatory standards are met.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the main point of contact between clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Prepare reports and updates for stakeholders on the project’s status, including any issues or delays.
- Address client concerns and provide recommendations for improvements or changes.
- Project Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including reports, permits, and contracts.
- Submit regular project updates, progress reports, and final project reports.
- Ensure that all necessary approvals and inspections are completed.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Licenses/Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license, or in the process of obtaining one, may be required.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in engineering software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar), project management software (Microsoft Project, Primavera), and basic knowledge of construction methods and materials.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in civil engineering or project management in construction projects.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with clients, stakeholders, and teams.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
