Position Overview:
The Business Development Officer will play a key role in originating, structuring, and closing deals focused on financing green upgrades in multifamily affordable housing and clean energy projects in rural or disadvantaged communities. The ideal candidate will have experience in project finance, tax credits and equity structuring, and a deep understanding of state and federal incentives related to renewable energy and/or affordable housing.

Must Have Qualifications:
- 5+ years of business development experience in the finance or clean energy industry.
- Demonstrated experience in project finance with a financial institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of state and federal incentives for renewable energy (such as ITC, PTC) and affordable housing programs.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management abilities.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to present complex financial concepts to non-experts.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
- In-depth knowledge of renewable energy finance, including solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy efficiency, and tax incentives analysis.
- Experience with state-level renewable energy incentives such as Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs), and other incentives.
- Familiarity with closing tax equity transactions is a plus.
Location: Remote in the U.S.A.
Reports to: VP of Investments and Project Finance
Skill Leve: Intermediate
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field. MBA or master’s in finance or real estate is a plus.

Compensation: $75K base + Commissions
Key Responsibilities:
- Business Development: Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with potential clients and referral sources in the affordable housing and renewable energy sectors. Develop a pipeline of new business opportunities.
- Origination: Lead the origination of the energy project finance transactions.
- Transaction Structuring: Structure transactions that involve tax equity, debt, and other financing mechanisms. Work closely with internal teams, external advisors, and partners to structure financially sound deals.
- Market Research: Stay abreast of industry trends, state and federal renewable energy incentives, and affordable housing programs to ensure the organization remains competitive in the market.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as credit officers, underwriters, and portfolio managers to ensure seamless execution of deals.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community organizations, to foster support for the organization’s projects.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates on the status of the business development pipeline and ongoing projects to senior management.
Initial Goals:
- Understand TBL Fund products and services within 30 days
- Build a short pipeline of potential customers/deals within 60 days
- Start processing first deal within 90 days
