Your role within the team:
- We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Director to establish and grow our operations in Germany. As the first hire in the region, you will play a pivotal role in driving market entry, building our brand, and managing key commercial relationships.
- A critical responsibility will include overseeing and developing the relationship with a major pan-European customer headquartered in Germany.
- The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial individual, who has experience within high-growth, businesses. They will have strong commercial acumen and have had P&L responsibility, and well as being an outstanding operator and ideally have proven their ability to drive success in a highly competitive market.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a commercial strategy tailored to the German market, ensuring alignment with global objectives.
- Identify growth opportunities within the category and establish a clear roadmap to meet sales, revenue, and profitability goals.
- Build a robust understanding of local consumer trends and regulatory requirements, adapting global strategies to fit the German market.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Take ownership of the relationship with a major pan-European customer based in Germany, serving as their primary contact.
- Develop and implement joint business plans to maximize mutual growth opportunities.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination with the customer to address needs, resolve issues, and drive sustained partnership success.
Sales & Business Development:
- Negotiate and secure listings with German retail and e-commerce partners, broadening the brand’s reach and presence.
- Manage sales pipelines and foster relationships with distributors and other key stakeholders as necessary
- Track and analyse sales performance, making data-driven decisions to optimize strategies.
Operational Management:
- Work with the EU Operations Director to ensure day-to-day operations, including supply chain, logistics, and customer service, ensuring smooth and efficient business functioning.
- Partner with the UK team to design marketing campaigns, tailor product offerings, and establish competitive pricing strategies for the German market.
Skills & Attributes:
- Must be able to speak both German and English fluently
- 5 + years’ sales & marketing in FMCG industry ideally within the pet category
- 5+ years’ experience as a manager or others handling multiple direct reports
- Experience in the health and wellness space a strong plus
- The ability to work in a matrixed environment with – Finance, HR, IT, Legal and Operations reporting into central functions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to evolve into a multicultural environment
