About the team:
Located in the Planning and Regulation Department, the City Inspectorate Branch is responsible for enforcement of the City’s standards and local laws, across building community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect the safety and amenity for the City’s residents and visitors. You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders.
About the role:
The Coordinator Building Compliance provides leadership and management of an efficient and effective development compliance service that operates in accordance with the City’s policy and legislative framework. You will carry out a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Lead and manage the City’s Building Compliance service including three Building Compliance Leaders.
- Manage, motivate and assess performance of team members, ensuring effective and efficient management and development.
- Reviews and authorise statutory notices relevant to Building Compliance.
- Provide strategic and tactical leadership in the delivery of the Building Compliance service within the Branch and across the City, including high level expert advice to the Manager Development Compliance and leadership team, in accordance with legislative, internal and external regulations.
- Fosters a working environment conducive to achieving quality outcomes through effective management of organisational change and dealing with new and unexpected challenges.
- Maintain appropriate networks with other organisational units, external organisations and other levels of government.
About you:
The successful applicant will possess:
- Excellent ability to manage staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated skills in consultation, negotiation and mediation.
- Experience and passion for mentoring others within a team
- Excellent level of documentation and written communication skills
- The ability to prioritise and manage numerous investigations.
- Holds a Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted
- Holds WHS Licence General Construction (White Card) or is willing to obtain one.
- Knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, and Building Code of Australia is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in building surveying, equivalent knowledge and or experience highly desirable
- Experience in building compliance, or other relevant fields with additional experience in Regulatory Enforcement highly regarded.
