Editorial Expert (Remote)

Edanz is seeking an editorial expert to join our team. This role is key to assuring that our clients receive the optimal deliverable for their unique research needs.

Responsibilities range from auditing the work of our freelance experts to optimizing workflows and services within the ever-changing environment of academia. You will work closely with the customer-facing team to ensure that deliverables align with clients’ needs and business goals.

This position is primarily remote, although Japan-based staff work together several times per year.

Responsibilities

·        Raise (and maintain) the quality of the company’s copyediting across all our brands.

·        Help the company stay competitive by keeping up to date with the latest in editorial industry thinking.

·        Ensure that communications to freelancers and clientele, project-related documents, press releases and reports are effective, concise and adhere to any and/or all of the following:

• journal/publisher guidelines
• company strategy
• client requirements

·        Review work done by writers and research consultants.

·        Assess the suitability of a given expert for a client’s specific research needs.

·        Scope and quote for custom-pricing services.

·        Solve queries from the client-facing team and our freelance experts.

·        Contribute editorial expertise and understanding of policies, procedures, and the editing community towards the development and implementation of new services, technologies, and products within the company.

·        Drive continuous improvement of the department to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

·        Experienced copyeditor who has worked in academic publishing

·        Knowledgeable about other aspects of journal or publisher editorial workflows: assessment of submissions, selection of peer reviewers, investigation of issues of ethics, etc.

·        Bachelor’s degree in the sciences and/or business. MSc is preferred.

·        Must have native-level English, demonstrable by completing secondary or higher education in a country where English is the primary language of education.

·        Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

·        The following are preferred:

• Live (and authorized to work) in Japan. Candidates outside of Japan will be considered, but working during Japan business hours is required.
• BELS certification and/or equivalent
• Experienced in project management

·        The following would be considered a bonus:

• First authorship of a manuscript published in a peer-reviewed international journal within the last 5 years
• Medical communications experience
• Japanese or Mandarin language proficiency
