Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manages projects under federal regulatory programs (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, the Safe Drinking Water Act, NEPA) for Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal (DOE, NASA, EPA, etc.) customers.
• Serves as client interface on project initiation, progress, issues, and results.
• Contributes significantly to assigned projects during the budgeting, planning, execution, and closure phases.
• Performs effectively as a task leader and directs medium/large projects as assigned.
• Plans, implements, and reports processes and procedures for the investigation and remediation of hazardous, radioactive, and mixed waste (HTRW) sites.
• Evaluates environmental data to make project decisions.
• Possesses familiarity with multiple groundwater sampling techniques as well as soil, soil vapor, sediment, and surface water sampling procedures. Working knowledge and ability to troubleshoot all forms of sampling equipment.
• Able to conduct high quality interaction and communication with customer during project execution, including professional leadership during regular and unscheduled project meetings.
• Cultivates customer relationships to ensure satisfaction and to maintain and grow workload.
• Performs effectively as a task leader and manages and directs projects as assigned.
• Demonstrates technical knowledge of safety programs and compliance systems and principles, as well as the application of environmental, worker, facility, and visitor protection methods.
• Provides clear instructions and constructive feedback to other professionals working on assigned projects.
• Develops, updates, reports, and ensures ongoing compliance with project schedules using automated scheduling tools (i.e., Microsoft Project).
• Tracks project budgets and schedules and provides monthly updates/forecasts to Alliant’s accounting office and upper management.
• Supports business development and marketing, including cost estimating, proposal preparation, and customer relations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Professional certification (PG, PE, PMP, etc.) is strongly desired.
• Capable of performing various tasks in addition to project management. Examples include field sampling, technical writing, proposal writing, cost estimating, GIS, CAD, application of other specialized software, database management, groundwater modeling, statistical analysis, etc.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.
• Must be self-motivated, able to problem-solve (and self-teach at times), and enjoy working as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills, specifically in the Microsoft Office Suite. Capable of learning new software programs.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and deliver consistently helpful direction and support to staff and external customers.
Education and Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Engineering, or Environmental Science
• Ten or more years’ experience in managing and executing HTRW projects for DoD agencies.
• Experience supporting proposal preparation and cost estimates is desired. The ability to learn these skills is a must.
• Familiarity with communicating and coordinating with federal or state regulatory agencies.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires standing, walking, and handling objects up to 50 pounds under one-third of the time and office work includes sitting, talking, or listening over two-thirds of the time.
Special Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
