We foster a learning environment that values evidenced based practice, experience, innovation, and critical thinking. Our compassion, integrity, accountability, and resilience defines us as leaders in pediatric specialty care for our children and their families.

Job Overview:

The Executive Director of Planned Giving is responsible for overseeing the core business of securing and stewarding planned gifts made by will, trust, life insurance and life income arrangements. Working closely with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and other internal teams, including board members, the Executive Director of Planned Giving will lead and execute all planned giving activities including a national cohesive marketing, communication and education initiative for planned gifts.
The Executive Director will cultivate, solicit and close leadership-level planned gifts, steward planned giving donors and train staff on planned giving vehicles across the Office of Philanthropy. With support from skilled planned giving fundraisers and operational staff, the Executive Director of Planned Giving is responsible for reaching or exceeding annual goals that fuel Shriners Children’s philanthropic future.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with at least 15 years progressive fundraising and management experience with a concentration in supervising planned giving programs. This role offers a unique opportunity to propel Shriners Children’s into the next era of philanthropic excellence through obtaining transformational planned gifts from six and seven-figure prospects and current donors.
Travel is estimated up to 50% of time and will be bi-weekly or more (domestic or international) as needed. The ability to travel with minimal notice, attend evening and weekend meetings and events and maintain a schedule of personal donor visits is critical to this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement and continually advance a cohesive integrated marketing strategy encouraging the establishment of planned gifts to the public, supporters and donors.
  • Utilize external and internal resources, create and produce compelling planned giving marketing and educational materials for dissemination to inspire potential donors.
  • Develop communication vehicles to educate prospects and professional advisers about Shriners Children’s planned gift options and to promote the establishment of planned gifts.
  • Oversee day-to-day responsibilities of the planned giving operations team (initially a team of six professional staff) for planned giving inquiries and referrals, planned gift processing and planned giving records management.
  • Develop and conduct an internal planned giving education curriculum and oversee the training of location and regional fundraisers in the use of planned giving assets, applicable current law and understanding of gift vehicles that are available for their donors. Deliver education and training to location and regional fundraisers to support the integration of planned giving information in major gift solicitation.
  • Track planned giving key performance indicators including gift revenue received, number and status of solicitations to planned giving prospects, return on investment and other success indicators.
  • Interact and consult as needed with other offices and departments within Shriners Children’s including Finance and Legal.
  • Lead the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of leadership-type planned giving donors and manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors at six-figure or more level.
  • Work collaboratively across teams to cultivate and solicit identified individuals for planned gifts at six-figure or more level.
  • Lead a team of planned giving fundraisers and oversee their portfolios, gift pipeline and prospect and donor contact.
  • Serve as the highest technical expert in planned giving vehicles and organizational processes for both the Office of Philanthropy and the entire organization.
  • In partnership with the Stewardship team, develop a series of special recognition items for planned giving donors and plan and implement a series of unique events for planned giving donors.
  • In partnership with the Stewardship team, plan and implement multi-media strategies to actively grow and steward the Dream Makers Legacy Society.
  • Serve as the key liaison with other internal departments and offices that are also involved with the planned giving program such as Accounting and Finance, Legal and Marketing and Communications.
