Job OverviewWe are seeking a meticulous and committed Patient Intake Services / Insurance Specialist to become a vital part of our team. This remote role provides flexibility with both full-time and part-time options. The ideal candidate should possess relevant experience in Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and enteral supplies, alongside a solid foundation in medical billing, HCPCS codes, and claims submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm insurance benefits and complete verification forms through direct communication with insurance providers or via online insurance portals, ensuring coverage for medical foods and DME products.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly addressing phone calls and emails, directing queries to the appropriate departments or team members as required.
- Oversee prior authorization processes and facilitate approvals to guarantee timely access to medical foods and DME products.
- Conduct re-verification of insurance coverage for existing patients during annual plan transitions, ensuring all approvals are current and thoroughly documented.
- Scrutinize patient medical records to confirm all requisite information is available for accurate insurance authorizations.
- Resolve insurance denials by collaborating with insurance companies and patients to clarify any issues and retrieve necessary information.
- Work closely with patients to collect updated insurance details when changes in coverage occur.
- Generate reports to identify patients with incomplete or missing insurance information and implement proactive measures to address these gaps.
- Manage the processing of wholesale orders and ensure effective tracking of new referrals.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Billing Manager and relevant team members regarding any verification challenges or concerns.
- Assist in the claims submission process, coordinating with billing and coding specialists as needed.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to team efforts in achieving organizational objectives.
- Foster a respectful and collaborative work environment, exhibiting professionalism in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
Required Skills
- A minimum of three years of experience in insurance verification and medical billing is essential.
- Previous exposure to the DME industry is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy is critical.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, insurance providers, and team members.
- Familiarity with insurance payers, health plans, and prior authorization protocols.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance legislation/guidelines.
- Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as eClinicalWorks, Office Ally, Availity, and Navinet is preferred.
- Customer service-oriented, emphasizing compassion and excellent patient care.
- Robust organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Cloud Drives) and fundamental office tools.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate Degree is preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Biller and Coder is highly regarded.
