Job Overview

We are seeking a Founding Backend Engineer to architect and build the infrastructure powering the Muses platform. In this role, you’ll design and develop backend systems, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and optimized for performance.

As an early team member, you’ll play a critical role in defining our tech stack, backend architecture, and engineering processes. This is your chance to shape a platform that will empower student communities and help brands connect with the next generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Architecture: Design and implement scalable backend systems to support Muses’ platform as it grows.
• API Development: Build and optimize RESTful APIs to power our front-end interfaces and ensure seamless communication between systems.
• Database Management: Architect and manage databases (relational and non-relational) to ensure data consistency, integrity, and performance.
• Platform Optimization: Implement solutions that optimize performance, improve system reliability, and reduce latency across all backend services.
• Security and Scalability: Build secure, efficient systems with a focus on scalability, ensuring the platform can support thousands of simultaneous users.
• Collaboration: Work closely with front-end engineers and other team members to integrate backend functionality with user-facing features.
• Tech Stack Leadership: Define and refine the tech stack, making thoughtful decisions about tools, frameworks, and workflows.
• Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise, implementing solutions to keep the platform running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Experience: 2-5 years of experience as a backend engineer, software developer, or full-stack developer. Experience building systems in an early-stage startup is a plus.
• Technical Expertise:
• Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Node.js, or Go.
• Experience with frameworks like Django, Express, or FastAPI.
• Proficiency in database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• APIs and Microservices: Experience designing and building scalable APIs and microservices.
• Scalability and Performance: Ability to architect systems that scale and optimize for high performance.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Startup Mentality: A proactive attitude, with the ability to balance speed and technical debt in an agile environment.

Note: This role requires availability primarily during EST/PST hours (7:00 PM – 5:00 AM IST). Please apply only if you can commit to these hours.
