Graphic Designer (Remote)

Join our team as a Graphic Designer and support the NIST Engineering Laboratory by supporting the investigation of Hurricane Maria’s impacts on Puerto Rico under the National Construction Safety Team (NCST) Act. This role involves creating complex graphics, visualizations, and report layouts for scientific and engineering publications, ensuring accuracy and clarity in both English and Spanish. The designer will collaborate on the development of digital imagery, charts, maps, and technical illustrations, utilizing advanced design software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Visio. Work Schedule and Location

Remote This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 800 AM to 500 PM

• Providing conceptualization and design of graphics such as digital imagery, charts, graphs, maps, and environmental graphics, from concept to completion
• Designing and developing graphics and illustrations for use in technical materials, manuals, and publications – material may be presented either electronically, through paper publications, or both
• Generating and creating layouts and final art

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field
• 5+ years of experience in design, 3 of which must be specialized, such as the below

• Work on a set of published reports with individual reports of at least 400 pages, including multiple chapters or sections, and a total page count of at least 1,500 pages for the set of reports
• Demonstrated ability to deliver on provided design concepts
• The ability to create original graphics of a complex nature which are suitable for a publication for wide distribution in print and electronic form
• Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe, and other graphical design software
• The ability to modify existing digital photos, handwritten designs, data tables, maps graphs, and charts and create enhancements, and experience using high end publication software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Paint shop)
