The Industry and Government Lead at Murray Regional Tourism (MRT) plays a crucial role in fostering strong relationships with industry stakeholders, managing industry development and investment, collaborating with local governments, and leading various initiatives to enhance regional tourism. The role involves strategic engagement, project management, advocacy, and cross-border cooperation efforts. The Industry and Government Lead will also collaborate closely with the internal stakeholders to support MRT’s objectives.

Industry Engagement and Development:
• Develop a measurable Industry & Stakeholder annual plan, aligned to the strategic plan and aimed at meeting the organisation’s industry engagement goals and that meets DJSIR requirements
• Report against delivery of your annual plan for inclusion in board meetings and annually, for distribution to DJSIR and industry stakeholders
• Proactively engage with industry stakeholders to understand their needs, provide support, and facilitate collaboration working to the Strategic and Destination Plan of the Murray Region.
• Manage industry development programs, investment initiatives, and projects to enhance the tourism sector’s growth.
• Organise industry meetings, events, forums where appropriate.
• Write and contribute to industry advocacy documents and annual reports.
• Support Crisis Communications Plan undertakings in crisis events
• Undertake surveys with the industry and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Organise online, hybrid and in person tourism manager and tourism industry forums.
• Research, interpret and update industry and latest research trends and statistics.
• Be the first contact point with event organisers, and provision letters of support and advice.

Government Relations and Advocacy:
• Represent Murray Regional Tourism at industry and government functions, presentations and advocating for the region’s tourism interests.
• Develop and support advocacy strategies to promote regional tourism and its economic benefits.
• Be the first contact point for Murray Regional Tourism with our Council Partner Tourism Managers
• Organise and lead Tourism manager forums (both online and in-person) to foster networking and knowledge exchange.
• With the CEO, assist in the writing of grant applications and then manage all reporting requirements associated with winning applications and based on grant requirements
• Provision of timely reports and updates to Government partners
• Input updates to our corporate planning software

Partnership and Cross-Border Cooperation:
• Collaborate closely with Destination Riverina Murray to promote cross-border cooperation and maximise synergies. 
• Manage joint projects, initiatives, and programs that enhance regional tourism experiences.

Collaboration with Visit Victoria:
• Engage with Visit Victoria to contribute to tourism industry development initiatives and leverage resources for growth.

Data Management and Commercial Opportunities:
• Manage the growth and integrity of the industry database, ensuring accurate and relevant information.
• Identify and explore commercial opportunities in collaboration with industry stakeholders.

Project Management:
• Take ownership of project management activities related to industry development, cross-border cooperation, and advocacy.
• Ensure projects are executed effectively, on time, and within budget.
• Management of contractors and agencies as required.
• Where relevant, manage industry and stakeholder contractors ensuring they are meeting their project deliverables, goals and budgets

Digital Marketing Collaboration:
• Collaborate with the Marketing function both internal and external to align digital strategies with industry objectives.
• Provide input and insights to optimize digital marketing campaigns for tourism promotion.
• Actively participate in the Annual Performance Review process.

Provide a safe, healthy and hazard free environment for staff, and ensure both employer and employee obligations are met as outlined in the Murray Regional Tourism Policies and Procedures.

Overnight travel within the region will be required at times.
