Lead Project Engineer | EDF Renewables | Australia
The Wind Project Engineer will be working on EDF Renewables Energy Projects. This role will be responsible for the successful and safe technical development and delivery of EDF-R projects in Australia. They will be working together with a multidisciplinary project organization, including finance, legal, engineering and construction experts.
This role could be based from Brisbane, Gladstone, Rockhampton or the Biloela area per the candidate’s preference.
Some of the key responsibilities of the Project Engineer include the following:
- Provide technical and commercial support to the development team to achieve financial close for EDF-R projects in development.
- Provide technical and commercial support during the EPC, BOP, TSIA and O&M contract negotiations
- Lead and manage the engineering workstream and project engineering team to ensure successful execution of wind farm projects from conception to completion.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance in the design, construction, and operation of wind farm facilities.
- Experience in the construction of infrastructure scale, grid connected renewables projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, procurement, and construction, to ensure alignment and coordination of engineering activities.
- Oversee the development and implementation of engineering standards, processes, and best practices to optimize project performance and quality.
- Conduct thorough technical reviews and assessments of project plans, specifications, and engineering deliverables.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, methodologies, and innovations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of wind farm development processes.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards, as well as environmental and safety requirements.
- Participation in the upstream contracting process to ensure optimum alignment of contractual commitments and incentives on quality, deadlines, milestones, costs, risks and opportunities.
- Management of the contracts in place at Financial Close (Engineering, Procurement and Construction related contracts, subcontractor’s contracts etc.)
- The implementation and deployment of EDF-R Industrial Policy, QHSE, Project Management policies and good practices at project level
- Support the Technical Lead in developing cost assumptions for the projects
- Provide validation of all key technical and construction documents and decisions related to the execution of the project contracts
- Management of the technical workstream and projects
- Supplier and contractor management
- Management of the Engineering budget and costs, including: management of procurement (for cost under its limit of authorization), negotiations with contractors / subcontractors, claim management etc.
- Strong leadership in the resolution of problems occurring during the Project Engineering phase and during Construction. Preparation of detailed recommendations
- Regular reporting to the Technical lead and to the Project Director.
- Initiation and implementation of strong working relationships with all key stakeholders
- Identification, monitoring and mitigation of construction-related risks
- Careful attention to all local aspects of the construction-related activities and development of good relationships with local communities and citizens
- Punchlist management
- Lead technical due diligence of the company’s wind project opportunities
- Lead the lender and insurance technical Due-Diligence of projects
- Work with the Paris industry team incl. on the definition and optimization of plant configuration, O&M technical support, procurement of the main equipment, yield estimates and optimization and technical risk assessment
- Support the Technical Lead in the preparation of investment dossiers and steering committees
Education: Degree in Engineering or equivalent
Experience:
- 10 to 15 years of experience in technical project management and construction in the field of Power Generation and at least 5 years in a leading technical position in utility scale renewable energy plants (ideally wind).
- Experience and understanding of Australian contractors and regulatory authorities is key.
- Minimum 5-7 years experience on site in infrastructure scale renewable energy construction.
- Demonstrated experience with the role responsibilities
Skills:
- Strong technical and commercial understanding of key challenges of the development, construction and operation of Power generation projects (electrical, mechanical and civil engineering, HV works, procurement, etc.).
- Ability to manage technical teams and subcontractors.
- Strong business acumen and commercial skills including knowledge of technical and commercial terms, contractual arrangements incl. EPCs, Supply Agreements, O&Ms, etc.
- Strong Project Management competencies and leadership capabilities (Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, HSE, Risks, etc…). A certification in Project Management (eg PMP, Prince2, etc) would be advantageous.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment,
- Rigor, with a positive mindset and emphasis on negotiations, stakeholders’ management and communication.
- Ability to develop a local network to facilitate corporate strategies,
- Ability to manage and support a team in an intensive, intercultural and complex context
- Willing to “role up your sleeves” and be in the detail of the work. We are a small team with a hands-on approach
- Experience on site and willingness to travel to project sites as needed. This role will have significant travel to regional Qld
