Get to know us

Biodiversity Australia is a leading environmental management consultancy, focused on building sustainable partnerships, economic management, and ecological balance. Innovative and rapidly growing, with a reputation for making bold moves in the industry, we are committed to driving sustainable solutions that balance economic growth and environmental preservation.

We’re an Indigenous-owned business, proud to work with diverse clients across mining, construction, government, aviation, and defence sectors. Our new Natural Capital Unit will deliver impactful projects supporting biodiversity conservation and carbon offsetting, leveraging opportunities in the Biodiversity Credits Market and advancing Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements.

About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Manager of Natural Capital to establish and lead this exciting new business unit. Based remotely within New South Wales, you will have the flexibility to work from home when not in the field, with travel required across the state to unique and diverse environments.

In this role, you will manage multiple projects simultaneously, leading a multi-skilled team of BAM-accredited ecologists to deliver outcomes-focused solutions. You’ll work autonomously with a strong pipeline of projects while proactively identifying opportunities for growth and collaboration in the Biodiversity Credits Market and other conservation initiatives.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of our Natural Capital initiatives, working at the forefront of biodiversity conservation, carbon offsetting, and sustainable land management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team to execute strategic plans for the Natural Capital Unit, aligning with organisational mission and objectives.
  • Lead the preparation of Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports and Biodiversity Certification Assessment Reports.
  • Manage and oversee Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements and facilitate the brokerage of Biodiversity Credits.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including landholders, government agencies, and private sector clients, ensuring project objectives are met.
  • Maintain a proactive and adaptable approach to managing complex projects with varying priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with biodiversity legislation and environmental frameworks while driving innovative approaches to Natural Capital asset management.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies to position the unit as a market leader in Natural Capital solutions by identifying opportunities, nurturing relationships, and promoting services within the Natural Capital sector.

About you

You are a strategic thinker and visionary leader with a proven track record in leading environmental projects and teams, as well as experience in biodiversity conservation, offset markets, and project delivery. Your ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes, combined with strong technical expertise and stakeholder engagement skills, positions you as a natural leader in this emerging field.

You’re an ambitious and adaptable professional with a proactive approach and strong commercial acumen, excelling in dynamic environments while maintaining a focus on objectives and outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • BAM Accreditation or ability to become BAM Accredited (essential).
  • Demonstrated experience preparing Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports and Biodiversity Certification Assessment Reports.
  • Deep understanding of the Biodiversity Credits Market and associated regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience in negotiating and implementing Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication abilities.
  • A tertiary qualification in ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related discipline.

Why join us?

  • Be at the forefront of a rapidly growing sector in environmental management.
  • Lead an exciting new unit within a dynamic, Indigenous-owned consultancy.
  • Work on meaningful projects that deliver lasting environmental and social impact.
  • Collaborate with a highly skilled and passionate team committed to excellence.
  • Enjoy a flexible and supportive work environment with professional growth opportunities.
  • Work remotely with autonomy and flexibility while enjoying diverse fieldwork across NSW.

Indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply.
