About the role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, the position of Media and Communications Specialist, is responsible for the development, implementation and optimisation of Lung Foundation Australia’s media and communications strategies to achieve two strategic objectives:
- Increase awareness of Lung Foundation Australia as a leading charitable brand; and
- Increase community participation in services and or events.
To achieve this, key responsibilities of the role include:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual media plan to achieve organisational objectives.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists, ensuring consistent, high-quality coverage across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
- Identify and develop impactful, newsworthy stories that position Lung Foundation Australia as a thought leader.
- Manage the delivery of media campaigns, both internally and through external agencies, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Monitor and respond to media inquiries in a timely and effective manner, providing expert guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and case studies that amplify key messages and initiatives.
About you
The ideal candidate will have a blend of media expertise, and communications acumen with prior experience at a non-profit working alongside Fundraising.
Additionally, the role requires:
- Tertiary qualifications in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with a media focus.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing media strategies that align with organisational goals.
- Strong knowledge of the media landscape, with proven experience building and maintaining relationships with journalists and outlets.
- A demonstrated ability to identify and pitch newsworthy stories.
- Exceptional written communication skills, including copywriting, editing, and proofreading, with attention to detail.
- The ability to analyse and apply data insights to optimise media strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with experience as a media spokesperson considered advantageous.
