The Opportunity

Operational Technology is critical to our System Monitoring and Switching Centre which provides continuous 24/7 real time management of the South Australian Transmission System. There are around 25 Operational Technology applications in the systems portfolio. The primary production system is the Open Systems International (OSIi) (AspenTech) Energy Management System (EMS). The Energy Management System is the core SCADA system providing monitoring, automation and remote control of South Australia’s electricity transmission assets and supports the operation of the National Electricity Market.

We have multiple opportunities for a Systems Engineer who will be responsible for ensureing that all operational technologies are available, maintained, upgraded, and improved. It provides engineering services through the availability of Operational Technology systems, to ensure any business risk that may affect the safe operations, automation, control, and management of SCADA based systems, controls and other related technology.

The Systems Engineer is also responsible for system changes – through planning, delivery, operations, and maintenance of the Operational Technology applications portfolio with the emphasis on the Operational System applications. Typical Operational Technology works would include maintenance and support of operational systems which reside inside and outside of SCADA environment but forms an integral part of the overall Operational Technology network. The Systems Engineer will also be involved in measuring and monitoring quality, integrity, and accessibility of real-time information for both monitoring and control including regulatory data compliance.

About You

To be successful in this critical role, you will possess the following:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ work experience in a systems engineering or systems integration type role;
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of networking and security, operating systems, virtual environments, and systems integration;
  • Knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle, especially systems integration, verification & validation, operations and support;
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate development and modifications to operational processes and continuous improvement in team-based environments;
  • Demonstrated ability and skills to act to minimise errors and maintain quality standards;
  • Well-developed analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills;
  • Experience in verification testing and troubleshooting systems;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Computer Science, Technology or relevant discipline.
