THE POSITION

GroundLinx is looking for an Operations Manager that is a leader; energetic, and dedicated, to join our growing team. This is a permanent work opportunity, no travel required.

Responsibilities

The Operations Manager excels at communication and is adept at planning, problem-solving and delegating, with the capacity to navigate challenges that arise.

  • Facilitate relationships with outside freight carriers; such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation
  • Develop best practices for logistics and transportation activities through process improvement initiatives
  • Provide support for projects, proposals, and new business opportunities
  • Assist accounts payable in relation to carrier invoice and payment issues
  • Provide on-boarding and training of new Team Members
  • Work with Human Resources & General Manager on prospecting new hires and temporary staffing to meet capacity needs
  • Perform mid-year and annual Performance Reviews of direct reports
  • Create and elaborate on reports, KPIs and other forms of data collection for both internal and external needs as requested
  • Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Ensure timely pick-ups, recoveries, deliveries, and agent selection, while maintaining cost controls
  • Communicate pending work and/or unresolved problems to General Manager, if necessary
  • Plan and execute process reviews and improvement of SOPs
  • Negotiate and contract rate agreements with carriers, reconcile established rate levels with available purchased transportation providers, seek out new carriers to provide service at competitive rate levels
  • Provide rate quotations with knowledge of pricing methods through multiple modes of ground transportation
  • Enter new accounts and/or do maintenance on account files when needed

  • Overtime may be required based on operational need
  • Create and assign after hours on call responsibility schedule to operations staff
  • Work with Sales Executives to drive growth and operational success
  • Manage the conditions that drive team performance
  • Coach colleagues and share feedback in ways that enable them to develop and deliver
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Excellent leadership skills including authentic, creative, adaptive, resilient, empathetic, analytical

Excellent communication skills (Verbal and written)

Ability to manage ambiguity – hold conflicting ideas and dealing with competing priorities that feel equally important.

Ability to make informed decisions by considering the broader context; ability to look at situations and issues form the standpoint of external stakeholders, customers, competitors, etc.

Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in the supply chain transportation, logistics, business, or related field

3-5 years of dispatching experience in a brokerage environment

Working knowledge of the Loadlink and other Load boards

Strong knowledge of dispatching all different types of truck moves (Port Drayage, TL, and LTL, etc.)

Computer literate (Word, Excel, Microsoft products)

Experience using TMS software

Ability to effectively multi-task and identify priorities

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment and build relationships internally and externally

Self-motivated, pride in work and self/departmental results

Knowledge of North American geography

Expertise in spot quoting, understanding industry markets

Participate in office holiday & after-hours coverage (if necessary)

REPORTING

  • The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager.
  • This is a hybrid position requiring time in the office as directed by the General Manager, with the ability to work remotely.
